Elijah Cummings 'signed subpoenas from his hospital bed' for Trump impeachment before his death

Source: Independent UK

Elijah Cummings was kept busy to the very end of his life leading an investigation into Donald Trump before passing away at the age of 68 on Wednesday, his aides have said.

The chairman of the House Oversight Committee was signing subpoenas from his hospital bed, one aide told the New York Times.

He also helped lead a Democratic caucus conference call.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi described Mr Cummings as a “north star” who spoke with “unsurpassed clarity and moral integrity” on the House floor.

Ms Pelosi, who grew up in the city Mr Cummings represented, said he was her “brother in Baltimore” during a press conference on Thursday, adding: “We’ve all lost a friend … I’m devastated by the loss.”

...One thing I've been sad about today is that Representative Cummings did not live long enough to see this nightmare come to an end. I hope he was at peace knowing he is a hero to us all, and, literally, fought for us until his last breath.

He no doubt knew that the end was near but he kept fighting for all of us. I doubt I would
have 1/10 of his grace and courage.

(As in boo-yah!)

Signing subpoenas on his deathbed?! They say that "dying declarations" are the most sincere and profound truths that we can make.

Mr. Cummings gave his last, full measure for his country.

46. A troubling thought. I was on the phone today with a colleague.

In the course of our conversation, Mulvaney's testimony came up, as well as this new outrage of Trump scheduling the G7 summit at his own hotel in Tampa, and my colleague said something that gave me pause.

He said he thought it was suspicious that the Chairman of the House Oversight Committee died just as these new revelations came out. Of course, this implied he thought there may have been some foul play.

I replied that Cummings had been ill some time.

My colleague replied that yes, but he had federal healthcare, and he then mentioned people the Russians have poisoned. See, he thinks that the Russians have deeply infiltrated our government, more deeply than we know.

Now, I'm not saying this is so at all, and I'm not trying to bring forth some conspiracy theory.

But...

I was troubled by the conversation. Not ready to make any judgment, but we do know that Russian oligarchs seem to have a pretty long reach, and that they have certainly affected this nation in a bunch of ways, some of which we might not yet be aware of. Not saying anything about Cummings, but geez, Trump and his guys seem to be hastening their destruction of the republic just as the jaws are closing around them.

To me, it seems the only thing that is saving us from the fall is that the oligarchs did their coup too soon, and their own hubris proved too much for a still partly-free republic to bear.

This whole thing is a giant conspiracy theory coming to light, piece by destructive piece. We're living it, and we are in a huge constitutional crisis and we are THIS CLOSE to losing this republic. We really are. It isn't a game, and there are billions of dollars lined up on the side of the oligarch parasites.
