Eddie Vedder takes issue with Romney comments

Source: AP

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder isn't singing Republican Mitt Romney's praises.

Vedder said during a Thursday performance at a fundraiser for President Barack Obama that he was upset by Romney's caught-on-tape comments from last spring that 47 percent of Americans consider themselves victims and entitled to government help.

Vedder told the audience that he struggled as a young man and credited a government training program with helping him learn the skills he needed to become a security guard in San Diego, a job that helped support his rock 'n roll ambitions.

"It was that job that allowed me to also afford the guitars and tape recorder and microphones I needed to let me afford keep working on music," he said. "It was also the job I reluctantly left to move up to Seattle for less pay, in order to join a band. It all worked out."

We have many Job Corp young people in our community. If they are lucky enough to land a position at the local tribe's medical clinic they are on their way. They start out as nursing assistants and usually leave to attend college with specific goals in mind - becoming RNs and then PAs. I credit a doctor in that clinic for the time he spends mentoring the young people.

Not everyone starts on first base - that does not make them moochers or worthless - if a program helps them to first base.

He says Vedder is the real deal. Very down to Earth, humble, ferociously progressive, and a very nice guy.

That's good to know. I'm a fan...

Or that might have been created due to a WPA grant back in the 30's.

I am low tech too so I get that.

This site is really easy to navigate though, and plenty of people to help you find things.

and I tried to reply to you.

I suppose I hit the wrong thing and it tried to "Ignore" you.

What the heck is that?

I am new to this, but is "Ignore" a consistent option?

Or, did I just hit some random key? I am quite capable of same...

Twenty-eight-thousand-and-some posts and I STILL don't know a bunch of stuff.

I think you can un-ignore. Go to your inbox and there are multiple options to select that help you do stuff in there. When I'm not sure, that's where I start looking. But now since they upgraded DU, there's a "Welcome and Help" page that may assist as well.

Oh yeah, and btw - you evidently did succeed in replying. 'Cause I had something to reply to, here!

This is just one example of many. Aside from people who are in a bad spot right now, even many people who aren't have been there. A lot of people weren't born into wealth and have been there, and they remember what it was like -- even rich people.

Because Vedder pulled himself up with that help and no longer "needs" it. They are saying the same thing about Moby's statement this week. It's all the people who don't succeed after that help that are the problem. So if you get gubmint assistance for something and do not make your millions, you are the 47%.
