Harry Dunn parents say they rejected Trump offer of cheque

Source: The Guardian

The family of a 19-year-old motorcyclist killed outside a Northamptonshire RAF base in a crash involving the wife of a US diplomat have said compensation from Donald Trump will not resolve the matter.

...snip..

The Dunn family’s spokesman, Radd Seiger, told PA Media that their meeting at the White House on 15 October ended with the president saying the secretary of the treasury, Steven Mnuchin, was “standing by ready to write a cheque”.

Seiger added: “It was almost as if he let it slip out. When he said: ‘We’ve got the driver here’, he basically meant we’re all going to have a big hug and a kiss and I’ll get my treasury guy to write a cheque. That’s how it was. On the day it just didn’t register with me, but the more I think about those words, the more shocking it is.”

10. "Surprised he didn't lay out a NDA for them", that comes after they

agree to take the check.

4. You can be that the check bounces.

Maybe dump forgot to sign it. Or it's from one of his own accounts?

Doesn't matter since the Dunns will be back in England and need to get in line behind thousands of other creditors to get paid.

5. I remember him speaking to parents of fallen soldiers,

he told at least one of them he would send them a check for God knows what reason. Of course a check never surfaced.

26. He told that Gold Star Father he was going to give him a 'personal check' for $25,000

The father let it be known that he never received a check. Once THAT twist to the situation was released, by the press, the White House release a terse statement saying that the check WAS sent. Yea, as soon as the story hit the air waves, but not before.

edit: I should add that this situation had to do with the father telling trump*, during the phone call, that his son's ex-wife was the beneficiary to his military life insurance. I'm not sure if the issues was that he (the father) was going to be handling the funeral expenses, or what. It does make me wonder if trump* raised the issue about the insurance money because, really, that was likely the last thing on that father's mind.

6. The deal maker my a$$. Trump is a one trick pony.

Write a check using taxpayer money. Who appropriated those funds?
What more proof should we need to see that he is stealing from the U.S. Treasury to bribe his way through his term.

18. What he put them through is callous and reveals that he is incapable of any empathy,

but the woman who hit and killed the young man, left the country immediately afterward. What does that say about her ?
