Defiant Mark Zuckerberg defends Facebook policy to allow false ads
Source: The Guardian
Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has defended the companys decision to not take down political advertising that contains false information and compared the alternative to censorship.
Challenged on CBS over the policy, which has raised concerns over misinformation campaigns that could distort elections, Zuckerberg refused to commit to any changes.
What I believe is that in a democracy, its really important that people can see for themselves what politicians are saying, so they can make their own judgments, he said.
And, you know, I dont think that a private company should be censoring politicians or news.
Gayle King, co-host of CBS This Morning, pointed out that 200 Facebook employees wrote a letter asking Zuckerberg to reconsider as free speech and paid speech are not the same.
The Facebook co-founder was unmoved.

He added: I think that people should be able to judge for themselves the character of politicians.

FB has posting rules, yet they don't consider that censorship, so I say BS Zuck on this political ad non-fact-checking BS. I had previously read that FB makes TONs of money on political ads. Hmmmmm... I am assuming it is directly related to his BS.

I guess we should be counting our blessings that he hasn't (yet) run for political office. OTOH, why run when you can just connive with the experienced BSers like red don.

I wish a boycott was possible. But too many Democrats rely on it even just for family/friends contact.
Because if his clientele is reduced to the minority of deplorables, his stockholders will be screaming at him to reconsider his recklessness and his tag team with Donald.

(47,399 posts)It is banning deceptive advertising, not a far-fetched idea at all.
Also I know people who have been banned or suspended from Facebook for their posts that Facebook found offensive, even though true. Censorship seems to be relative with them.

(38,419 posts)It really is that simple. Let's say that 50 percent leave Facebook because of his arrogance..
Can you imagine that?... So what happens to the value of the company?
I say it again...Stupid is what stupid is.....Here is the key idea....There are substitutes for ..Facebook? What are they?
A lot of us can switch to some substitute...Are there any?..say Twitter?..any others?
