A Danish Think Tank Says The US Ambassador Banned A Trump Critic From An Event

Source: Buzz Feed News

A NATO expert was supposed to speak at an event in Copenhagen but got a letter from event organizers saying Ambassador Carla Sands did not want him there.

The US ambassador to Denmark, a donor to President Donald Trump’s first presidential campaign, has banned a NATO expert who has been critical of the president from speaking at an event in Copenhagen celebrating the NATO’s 70th anniversary.

Stanley Sloan, a visiting professor at Middlebury College, fellow at the Atlantic Council and former CIA analyst, was abruptly disinvited from the event by the Danish Atlantic Council, which said the embassy had communicated its displeasure. Sloan tweeted that it was because of his “critical evaluation of Trump’s impact on transatlantic relations.”

“[T]he Danish Atlantic Council via the official channels became instructed that Ambassador Carla Sands does not want presence at the Conference,” Lars Bangert Struwe, the head of the Danish Atlantic Council, with organized the event in cooperation with the US embassy, wrote in an email to Sloan.

The ambassador, Sands, is a former actress, chiropractor, and board member of major California institutions who was confirmed to her post in 2017 after making contributions to Trump’s campaign and inauguration and, according to ProPublica, being recommended by Eliott Broidy. Her official Twitter account looks much like any other ambassador’s, while her personal account is often retweets of articles from far-right outlets like Breitbart and Prager University.

Like the Nato leaders mocking Trump and going on with their agenda instead of his agenda of self-praise, groups like this should just ignore this administration. It’s filled with ignorant sycophants.

Stanley R. Sloan wanted to present a range of possible scenarios. Here is the darkest one:

... This scenario presents a much darker future. In it, the United States essentially abandons its transatlantic commitments and leadership roles. The European allies fall into disputes about how to maintain their security and provide new leadership. Such a scenario could begin with the reelection of Donald Trump.

In this hypothetical scenario, Trump continues the process of abandoning US international leadership and decides to remove all US forces from Europe. Trump tweets that he and Vladimir Putin have agreed that such a move would promote peace and security in Europe. In response, European allies discuss creating strong, integrated European defense structures to replace the transatlantic NATO one.

But they find it too challenging politically and financially. Even the overwhelming cost estimate projected in 2019 by the IISS for the EU members to create a defense system as capable as that of NATO turns out to be overly optimistic. Several member countries suggest that the EU should follow the US lead and sign a peaceful relations accord with Russia, in which both sides pledge to take no aggressive actions against the other. Even though some commentators immediately label this »the 21st century Munich,« most European governments decide they have little choice. ...

After serious consideration, we have decided not to proceed with
the Conference. The progress of the process has become too
problematic; and therefore, we cannot participate in the Conference,
let alone ask our Speakers to participate.

Some posters think this is a gesture of solidarity with Mr. Sloan, others think it’s total
capitulation to Vladimir Putin

The U.S. ambassador to Denmark starred in a movie mocked by MST3K, so that’s reassuring

You know the old adage: “A’s attract B’s, B’s attract C’s…” and so on. Unfortunately, the English language runs out after only 26 letters, making it somewhat difficult to measure who exactly remains attracted to the Trump administration, but this week The Daily Beast uncovered at least one more person who still willingly remains within Donald’s orbit and, boy, she is something, folks.

Ambassador Carla Sands’ background would likely have been overlooked as yet another insane thread in the grotesque Trump tapestry, were it not for the fact that she’s now in charge of picking up the pieces after our president threw yet another tantrum, this time about not being able to purchase Greenland from the Danish. (The mere act of writing that last sentence almost certainly took a year off our lives). So what was Sands’ CV prior to serving as the official envoy to Denmark? Knowing this administration, we’re pretty confident it wouldn’t be quite applicable to the role of Danish ambassador, but surely some twisted logic could be followed to explain how they appointed her to the position.

Well, per a simple investigation published today, Sands is none other than a climate change-denying, conspiracy theory-retweeting ex-actress whose credits include a handful of The Bold And The Beautiful episodes, as well as Death Stalker And The Warriors From Hell, a film so bad it was lampooned in a seventh-season episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Sands’ whole deal, apart from Death Stalker, is more in line with what we’ve come to expect—widow to a multimillionaire real-estate mogul, longtime hobnobber within California conservative politics, and possessor of a complete lack of ambassadorial experience apart from being nice to her clients at her chiropractic office (she’s also an ex-chiropractor).
