Inspector general says Barr's hand-picked prosecutor failed to convince him FBI was wrong
Source: Washington Post
Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz said Wednesday that a senior prosecutor failed to convince him that the FBIs 2016 investigation of President Trumps campaign was improperly opened, revealing new details about internal tension among senior officials over the politically explosive case.
At a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Horowitz was asked by the panels senior Democrat, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.), if Attorney General William P. Barr or his hand-picked prosecutor on the issue, Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham, offered anything to change the inspector generals view that the FBI had a valid reason to open the probe in July 2016.
No, we stand by our finding, said Horowitz, who said he met in November with Durham to discuss the findings in the inspector generals 434-page report released Monday. When the report was released, Durham issued an unusual public statement saying he did not agree with Horowitzs conclusion about the opening of the investigation.
Horowitz told lawmakers that the disagreement stemmed from a difference of opinion about whether the FBI should have opened a preliminary investigation, which puts some limitations on the investigative steps that can be taken, or a full investigation. The FBI opened a full investigation, based on a tip from the Australian government.

(8,787 posts)I have been flipping around news networks while watching the hearing......CNN MSNBC etc etc.
It is appalling that the networks reporting on this, could not possibly have watched the same hearing I am watching.
As over the past few weeks, there have been several Repubs like Jordan and Graham that have gone on a dramatic rants that look well written, orchestrated and delivered by them. All are highly absent of anything reality based.......
Their sole purpose is to give Fox etc great video soundbites to gin up their party, and to portray that the Republicans are destroying the Dems in this impeachment inquiry...........
We have no idea, on what Trump discussed with Graham during that golf game, but whatever Kopromat Donald and Putin have on him has caused him to throw a big 180 and become a doting subservient, submissive to Trump. It must be really really juicy to scare Graham into going all out defending Trump, the Republican Senate, and the entire Republican Party.....
I keep having to step back and look at the bigger picture and that is, that this whole prooceding is moot. As soon as this hits the Republican Senate, it will be DOA, and dead in the water.
We are just months away, and millimeters away from a total Obliteration of Democracy, and installation of a Tyranny run, Fascist Government.....
I will try to relax, and enjoy what I can in life, knowing that on Nov 3-4 we will see something that this nation has never witnessed in it's entire history.......A Fascist Coup of disastrous proportion. Get ready, it's coming, mark my words. The Trump followers are a fanatical, politically ignorant group of sheep.........Katie Bar The Door........

I suspect that one of "their" moves in the future would be to crash the economy especially all the retirement investments to get everyone groveling. They have done that many times in the last 40 years. Sell Short, crash the market and make money on the way down, and then let all of us build the market back up, only to do it again and again.......Trump has already stated that if he doesn't win re-election, he will crash the economy........I am extremely fearful he can/will do more than that. He is the psychological type to say:
"I"ll Show You" and go out with a bang.........
In the year before Y2K, my son wanted to stockpile food, water, guns, ammunition....I told him that after 3 days there would be complete anarchy somewhat like ROAD WARRIOR. Food would run out and people would turn on everyone else. I told him I only needed one gun, and three bullets, because I wouldn't want to witness what would happen......(I'm usually not a defeatist, but when faced with facts and reality I become very pragmatic!! LOL)
