Vice President Mike Pences counsel rejected House Democrats request to declassify details of a Sept. 18 call between Pence and Ukraines president, calling the request illegitimate because the impeachment inquiry has concluded.
In a letter to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), Pences lawyer, Matthew Morgan, said it serves no purpose to declassify supplemental testimony from one of Pences national security aides, as Schiff had demanded.
At this point, the Intelligence Committees oversight authority is limited to those areas in which it may potentially legislate or appropriate, Morgan wrote to Schiff, who pressed Pence last week to declassify supplemental testimony from one of the vice presidents national security aides, Jennifer Williams.
The additional testimony, Schiff said, centers on Pences Sept. 18 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Earlier Wednesday, Schiff formally transmitted the classified testimony to the House Judiciary Committee, which began debating articles of impeachment late Wednesday night.

(12,265 posts)He has been up to his eyeballs in this mess from the beginning. He has been pretty quiet lately, trying to stay under the radar in case we manage to remove the orange one, or he resigns under pressure. Pence still wants to be President he thinks God has ordained it.

(6,448 posts)What about Pence's impeachment? Pompeo and Barr are possible targets too. Each individual in Trump's cabinet AND Kavanaugh are guilty of something. It was what qualified them for the job, according to the Corrupt one-in Chief.
So many perps. So little time.

(14,618 posts)That the intel committee's requests are unconstitutional because they are not an investigative body. Which isn't true since there is clearly an impeachment investigation ongoing, and in any event, it's part of the legitimate purpose of legislating (if you don't know of abuses, you can't craft legislation to curb them). Plus, it isn't legit to use the classification process to hide embarrassing info.
More slime, delays, and lies.
The scotus should decide today whether to hear mazer and possibly related cases. We should know by friday. If they do, they will take up these arguments in january and have a decision by june (although it could be much sooner).

(421 posts)but it's not public. The Dems want to make it public over Pence's objection and legal maneuvering. There's something damaging there to Pence.
