Trump conservative critics launch PAC to fight reelection

Source: AP

NEW YORK (AP) — A small group of President Donald Trump’s fiercest conservative critics, including the husband of the president’s own chief adviser, is launching a super PAC designed to fight Trump’s reelection and punish congressional Republicans deemed his “enablers.”

The new organization, known as the Lincoln Project, represents a formal step forward for the so-called Never Trump movement, which has been limited largely to social media commentary and cable news attacks through the first three years of Trump’s presidency. Organizers report fundraising commitments exceeding $1 million to begin, although they hope to raise and spend much more to fund a months-long advertising campaign in a handful of 2020 battleground states to persuade disaffected Republican voters to break from Trump’s GOP.

The mission, as outlined in a website that launched Tuesday coinciding with a New York Times opinion piece, is simple: “Defeat President Trump and Trumpism at the ballot box.”

The group is led by a seven-person advisory council that features some of the GOP’s most vocal Trump critics. Most, but not all, have already left the Republican Party to protest Trump’s rise.

just resign for the sheer stupidity of his actions and my continually having to hear about it. I kind of thought it might just be better for the VP to take over and hope to win the next election. I was talked down fairly easily, but if I was thinking that then, some of them have to be thinking that about Trump.

President Clinton was impeached because he lied in a civil lawsuit about actions before he was president. He deserved to be censured and temporarily disbarred.

However, the Founding Fathers meant impeachment for more serious matters pertaining to a president’s actions as president. Trump has committed crimes while in the Oval Office! This is a far more serious assault on our Constitution than Clinton’s lie about a consensual affair.

It’s perplexing to me that you can conflate these two profoundly different scenarios.

More power to them. I respected some of the 'old guard' republicans. I never voted for any of them, but I respected a few of them. There isn't a single republican I can say that about now. Not one.

These folks bring something different to the table - a relentless attack dog mentality. Being here in one of the heavily watched "swing states", I'm looking forward to seeing their work.

Probably not.

From the Koch to the Gates, they are all raking in the profits. What with the tax giveaways and the cuts in social benefits for the poor, the filthy rich are getting even filthier.

We'll see if any filthy rich person bothers to fund this.

They would rather live in a crumbling poverty stricken country with their wealth then be slightly less wealthy in a strong rich nation.
