Putin Criticizes Democrats for Impeaching Trump

Source: Wall Street Journal

Russian President Vladimir Putin blasted U.S. Democrats for impeaching President Trump on what the Russian leader called “made up charges,” and said he expects the U.S. leader to survive the firestorm in Washington and remain in power.

Speaking at a wide-ranging end-of-year news conference, Mr. Putin described Wednesday’s events in Congress as “the continuation of political infighting” between Democrats and Republicans. “I don’t think Trump will be voted out of power on made up charges,” Mr. Putin said. “Democrats lost the last election, and now they want to win by other means.”

Nearly all Democrats in the House of Representatives supported abuse-of-power and obstruction of Congress charges against Mr. Trump for pressing Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, a leading Democratic candidate for 2020’s presidential election. Republicans voted against sending Mr. Trump for trial in the Senate, while the president defended himself in a series of messages on Twitter where he railed against Democrat lawmakers for “trying to nullify the ballots of tens of millions of patriotic Americans,” he said.

At the centerpiece news conference, for which more than 1,800 journalists were accredited, Mr. Putin fielded questions on topics ranging from the conflict in eastern Ukraine to the price of plane tickets to Russia’s far-flung regions.

Russian Trump supporters celebrated their victory.

"It turns out that United Russia won the elections in America," Viktor Nazarov, the governor of Omsk, Russia, declared in a radio interview.

believes that the election next November hasn't already been favorably predetermined (aka fixed) for the Orange Maggot and the CONS, this statement by Putie should dispel that naive notion. I'm sure that the KGOP has received assurances from him that there will not be a repeat of the 2018 debacle.

“I don’t think Trump will be voted out of power on made up charges,” Mr. Putin said.

He won't be voted out of power on charges that are absolutely true, either. That is not the point. What this impeachment is about is abuse of power, the exposing of it to the fullest, and the exposing to the fullest of those who enable(d) it. We already know about Putin's role, so his ranting is exquisitely irrelevant.
