US government lists fictional nation Wakanda as trade partner
Source: BBC
The US Department of Agriculture listed Wakanda as a free-trade partner - despite it being a fictional country.
A USDA spokesperson said the Kingdom of Wakanda was added to the list by accident during a staff test.
The department's online tariff tracker hosted a detailed list of goods the two nations apparently traded, including ducks, donkeys and dairy cows.
In the Marvel universe, Wakanda is the fictional East African home country of superhero Black Panther.
The fictional country was removed soon from the list after US media first queried it, prompting jokes that the countries had started a trade war.

(23,132 posts)I've built more than a few databases, and frequently use dummy data to test things. I do remember to remove it from production versions, but it's been close more than once. It's pretty easy to forget it so I'm not going to criticize someone who has some slip through. It is funny, tho.

Yeah, we'll delete all that stuff before we go live, but odds are something will slip through the cracks.
I kinda LIKE the idea of Wakanda as a trading partner...

(45,380 posts)Yes, software testing can get creative sometimes when you have dingbats like me doing it. I had put together a whole Star Wars themed test scenario for a military client a few years back with characters and starships from the movies because the real data was classified. We remove all that before putting it in production. In college, we used Transformers, Thundercats, and similar.

Or should I report this as a "DUPE" of innumerable stories of the past 23 months of U.S. govt existing in a fantasy world?. Tempting but Naw.
