Iran announces arrests over downing of plane that killed 176

Source: AP

By NASSER KARIMI and AYA BATRAWY

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran’s judiciary said Tuesday arrests have been made for the accidental shootdown of a Ukrainian passenger plane that killed all 176 people on board just after takeoff from Tehran last week.

The announcement came amid an upswell of anger and protests by Iranians in recent days over the downing of the jetliner last Wednesday and apparent attempts by senior officials in Iran to cover up the cause of the crash.

Iran, which initially dismissed allegations that a missile had brought down the plane, acknowledged only on Saturday — three days after and in the face of mounting evidence — that its Revolutionary Guard had shot down the plane by mistake as the force braced for a possible military confrontation with the United States.

Judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaili said “extensive investigations have taken place and some individuals are arrested.” His statement on the judiciary’s website did not say how many individuals had been detained or name them.

Iran on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, acknowledged that its armed forces “unintentionally” shot down the Ukrainian jetliner that crashed earlier this week, killing all 176 aboard, after the government had repeatedly denied Western accusations that it was responsible. They no doubt will end up being hanged, while their CO's and the Mullahs including their "Supreme Leader" (more like Supreme Dictator,) will go on their merry way, putting out propaganda blaming "The Great Satan" for everything that is going wrong in that country.

And contrary to semi-popular belief here, Trump had ZERO to do with this.

Trump has enough rotten crap he CAN be blamed for.
This is not one of them.

The majority of comments on this are blaming the Mango Menace, which is ridiculous, the Iranians should have shut IKA down to commercial air traffic, allowing this aircraft to take off was criminal.

I'm wondering if the commander of this missile battery is looking for a way out of the country knowing how badly he fucked up.

A few here are really eager to blame Trump for EVERYTHING, and the nutjobs say this is "typical of the leftists!"

One thing I do take Trump to task for right now is his smear of the late Congressman Dingell.
Trump made a "joke" saying Dingell was "looking up at us," and that clearly implies Dingell is in "hell."

The White House, and Trump himself have said ZILCH since that rally in Michigan, where Trump smeared Dingell.

This is what we should be taking that SOB to task for, not something he had no influence at all over.

about the late, great Congressman John Dingell, and where he is right now, in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Congressman Dingell is laughing his ass off right now knowing how bad he's getting to the Mango Menace.

May that POS Mango Menace rot in hell for what he's put our country and world through and the repukes that have refused to rein him in and keep on enabling him.

Trump when he dies should be buried and remembered in disgrace, the way Nixon and McCarthy are by most.

It was a tongue in cheek comment.

I think the disgrace part is a given, at least by most sane people of the country and world.

I look at this whole story about "Hell" as being a concoction of ancient and Middle Ages "moralists," they saw so many of the most rotten people they could see, living and dying in total luxury.

Heck, even HITLER died in relative comfort, in his bunker, while his countrymen and women were slaughtered, raped, and tortured.

Mao died in luxury.

Pol Pot died in peace in his home town.

Stalin died in luxury.

So did Idi Amin.

It's been only recently, that a few of the worst of the worst have died badly on occasion, like Qadaffi.

...or a US bomber.

270k, 8k ft and climbing on the flight path right out of the nearby civilian airport?!

How in the hell would they think that was a target? How could they not have been totally used to planes leaving the airport at that speed and alt?

I mean, unless there is something more and for some reason a rogue group purposely shot it down using some half-baked rational. Although, that seems unlikely and I don't think there is anything that suggests that.

I disagree that Trump has nothing to do with this, though. I'm not saying he is to blame for this and everyone else is a victim of him, but rather that he shares at some of the blame. As in, he is a contributing factor to everything that lead up to this. This goes all the way back to him trashing the Iran deal in his quest to get rid of anything that Obama did. Without Trump the chances of us getting to the situation we were/are in with Iran would be a lot smaller. Again, this isn't saying Iran is innocent or isn't also responsible. They played just as much of a role in this too, and their ultimate decisions when it came to how they handled their air defense falls squarely on them.
