Source: Talking Points Memo
By Cristina Cabrera January 23, 2020 10:53 a.m. The 17-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg truly seems to be getting under the Trump administration's skin. On Wednesday, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin took a shot at the teen during a press conference at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland after she pleaded with world leaders to stop investing in fossil fuels. "Is she the chief economist? Who is she? I'm confused," Mnuchin joked. "After she goes to college and studies economics in college, she can come back and explain that to us," he added. 10. No, Munchkin. Money laundering, vulture deals, and fraud aren't "econonomics"
Had you spent even one day in legitimate business, you would know that.

24. Exactly.
WSJ:
On a muggy morning in July 2008, hundreds of customers stood outside IndyMac Bank branches in Southern California, trying to pull their savings from the lender, which was doomed by losses on risky mortgages. Steven Mnuchin didn’t know much about IndyMac as he watched the scenes on CNBC from his Midtown Manhattan office. But he immediately saw an opportunity and began figuring out how to buy the bank. Regulators seized IndyMac, foreshadowing a vicious banking crisis. Six months later, Mr. Mnuchin and his investment partners acquired IndyMac with a helping hand from the U.S. government. The deal eventually earned him hundreds of millions of dollars in personal profits. 12. Maybe Greta understands the concept of a
Customer base and she knows that no economic model will have long term success if you’re killing off or impoverishing your potential customers.

14. Being a great ship designer didn't help Thomas Andrews!
![]() https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Andrews As the naval architect in charge of the plans for the ocean liner RMS Titanic, he was travelling on board the vessel during her transatlantic maiden voyage in 1912. He perished along with more than 1,500 others when the ship sank after hitting an iceberg. If recovered, his body was never identified. |

17. I think Mnuchin needs to study economics.
Has he seen the national deficit this year? Has he seen how the National Debt is growing? Does he care? I doubt he cares because I doubt he understands much about economics than "Supply-Side Economics is good!" What a complete fool.

21. When you can't explain who pays for tariffs...
...maybe you shouldn't be shit talking someone's economics education.
Also, how amazing that a 15/16 year old girl can be such a thorn in the side of these people? They run the most powerful nation on the planet. She's a highschool kid. Incredible. |

22. She needs to learn about economics?
Perhaps you need to learn about Ecology, dude?
Economics without a population or planet to practice (abuse?) it on, is fairly meaningless. But it's a deal. She learns about economics, and you learn about ecology. And you might be able to see each other's point of view. I bet she is a faster learner that you, Munchkin man! |

28. Maybe you'll save some money now through cutting regulations and ignoring
climate change damage but you’ll spend more fixing it later. So there’s your economics lesson, Stephen.
