Obama and Romney Offer a Possible Preview of Their First Debate

Source: NYT

Mitt Romney criticized President Obama in remarks broadcast on Sunday for refusing to meet with Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, during this week’s United Nations General Assembly meeting, saying it sends a message that the administration is distancing itself from an important Middle East ally.

“I think the exact opposite approach is what’s necessary,” Mr. Romney said on “60 Minutes.”

Mr. Obama, speaking in a separate interview on the same program on CBS, said he spoke frequently with Mr. Netanyahu and described Israel as “one of our closest allies in the region.”

He also challenged Mr. Romney, who has accused Mr. Obama of not standing up forcefully enough to Syria and Iran, to be more specific about his foreign policy plans. “So if Governor Romney is suggesting that we should start another war,” Mr. Obama said, “he should say so.”

What cabinet post will Bibi get? State? Defense? Clearly, he already holds press secretary.

I post a lot on a conservative forum and I can pretty much assure you that most of the people on the right are against starting more wars. This would only give them more reason to stay home and not vote for Romny on election day (there is no way most of those guys could vote Obama).

It's all about making money to them, wars and selling to the military are seen as good business.

Republicans love the military....they just despise the soldiers.

champing at the bit to get at Iran. In the ME, it will be Bush II redux, which worked so well (sarcasm). If they also, as they have hinted, truly want to provoke Russia and China, one can only imagine what the consequences will be. Endless war, potentially.

But how else to keep Halliburton's coffers increasing as well as those of other war profiteers? Even if it could ultimately mean the destruction of the USA altogether.

As for those who would be sent to the front and have to do the actual fighting, "fuggetabout'em" under a Rmoney administration! First of all, how many of the chickenhawks have family members among the cannon fodder units that they consider so fungible and expendable but whom the rest of us actually see as living, breathing distinct individuals whom we love? Not too many, if any at all.

We've just seen what will be Rmoney's policy in action with the GOP refusing to pass the veterans' jobs bill. The GOP could care less about providing jobs, continuing benefits or needed health care treatment to those who have served.

If those you know really can't bring themselves to vote for President Obama, then it is frankly in their own interest to stay home altogether. Please encourage that. Please.

We need no more wars at this time. Jimmy Carter never took us to war. He put solar panels on the WhiteHouse. Without Reagan middle class would be making about $100,000, at least that is what I heard.

So Israel isn't on the table, but I suppose it could be as it's our 51st and most important state.
