Barr blasts Trump's tweets on Stone case: 'Impossible for me to do my job': ABC News Exclusive

Source: ABC News

In an exclusive interview, Attorney General Bill Barr told ABC News on Thursday that President Donald Trump "has never asked me to do anything in a criminal case” but should stop tweeting about the Justice Department because his tweets “make it impossible for me to do my job.”

Barr’s comments are a rare break with a president who the attorney general has aligned himself with and fiercely defended. But it also puts Barr in line with many of Trump’s supporters on Capitol Hill who say they support the president but wish he’d cut back on his tweets.

“I think it’s time to stop the tweeting about Department of Justice criminal cases,” Barr told ABC News Chief Justice Correspondent Pierre Thomas.

When asked if he was prepared for the consequences of criticizing the president – his boss – Barr said “of course” because his job is to run the Justice Department and make decisions on “what I think is the right thing to do.”

13. Ya think?

I'm sure there was a meeting last night between Barr and Trump where Billy told the Con "I'm gonna have to say some negative things tomorrow, but don't worry because I don't mean any of them. We're still good to go on getting back at all of your 'enemies'."

when it turns out people like Barr are playing them. It's all a big charade with most of the gullible public falling for it.

9. Barr got it wrong

"...Barr said “of course” because his job [trump - my edit] is to run the Justice Department and make decisions on “what I think is the right thing to do.

Trump should have nothing to do with the DoJ after making his appointment as to who is going to run it.

The DoJ is a seperate entity, cut and dried.

Hahahahahaha, that's totally funny. Who does he think he's fooling and why does he even pretend to try? We know damn well he's 100% in the tank for Traitor Tot, they are arm and glove in their destruction of America's legal system and it's whole way of life really.

42. Exactly correct

Barr is trying to tell Trump he can't effectively do Trump's dirty work when Trump tweets shine a spotlight on what he's doing.

Barr's comments will probably just make Trump angry and think Barr is being insubordinate and "disloyal".

19. Dis-Barr is playing a word game ...

”... but should stop tweeting about the Justice Department because his tweets “make it impossible for me to do my job.”

What he really means is that as long as Pendejo45 tweets about the DOJ, it implicates Dis-Barr as an accomplice, which makes it harder for Dis-Barr to be an accomplice. Too much light on Dis-Barr.
So he's telling Pendejo45 to STFU, so I can be an accomplice in the shadows.

Rachel Maddow MSNBC

@maddow

Forgive me, but Mr. Barr cannot be complaining that he is being bullied by the president.

He happily intervened in cases of interest to the president, to the president's benefit, to the point where prosecutors resigned in protest.

What he feels bullied by is the backlash to it.

That's 'Roy Cohn' to Trump. That's what Trump wanted, that's what Barr applied for before he was selected as Trump's 'Roy Cohn', and that's exactly what Barr has given Trump from day one on the job.

I don't believe you Barr. Not as far as I can throw you, and I couldn't throw you a millimeter.

On the other hand, Trump will probably still freak out about being publicly censured.

If this turned into a real feud between these two, that would be great.

Nobody believes him. You want us to believe? Produce documents and email records relating to this issue. Cooperate with an investigation. Or two. Or ten.

He's just worried about the Bar Association coming after him for the damage he's doing to our Democracy and legal institutions.

He's undermining our system of government and giving it the Alfred E Neuman treatment.

38. A friend analyzed it this way...

Barr and Trump had a meeting. To please Trump Barr told Trump that the sentence could be a little extreme and he would recommend lessening it.
Trump then wants credit for the decision so tweets about it before Barr can do anything.
Barr then releases his recommendation which looks like he's following orders and all hell breaks loose as the mountain of blame falls on Barr's shoulders.

So technically he wasn't following Trump's orders but, of course, the only reason he would intervene at all would be to stroke Trump's bloated ego.

Now he's whining about how Trump's tweeting creates problems for him.
(Problems that wouldn't exist if he hadn't kowtowed to Trump in the first place.)

So now Barr has publicly criticized Trump so this could be the beginning of the end of his corrupt AG stint.
Let's all hope.

Unfortunately Trump will find another total toady to install as AG next so it won't really change things.
The next one will probably be even more corrupt than Barr, hard as that is to imagine.
