Staffers for Sen. Scott Brown were caught on video this week at a rally in Boston chanting Indian "war whoops" and making tomahawk chop gestures, mocking Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren.
Pictured in the video are deputy Chief of Staff Greg Casey, Constituent Service Counsel Jack Richard, and a Republican operative named Brad Garrett, according to Boston's ABC affiliate.
A spokeswoman for the Brown campaign didn't immediately return a request for comment.

And the Boston Red Sox were the LAST baseball team to sign a black player, nine years after Jackie Robinson debuted with the Brooklyn Dodgers.

(4,667 posts)the GOP at its fundamental base is fueled by racism, sexism and hatred.
If people didn't hate based on natural born differences, would the American GOP even exist as a political party?
There was a poll out looking at white working class voters. In the South, Romney had a 40 point edge. Hmm... I wonder why? A generation ago the Democrats became a more inclusive party. And both white and black Democrats have paid for it in the south ever since.
Of course those of us who live outside the south know that evoking this type of response among voters doesn't just work in the old confederacy. The "southern strategy" works in a lot of places. Including Boston.
The good news is this is proof that Brown believes he is behind. He is turning the last page of the GOP playbook. This reeks of desperation.
Elizabeth Warren IS GOING TO BE THE NEXT SENATOR from Massachusetts.

(14,887 posts)by knowing Obama has their electoral votes need to get the message out - concentrate 'down ticket'. Turn around the city council, school or water board. Get that state assembly or senate candidate elected. And don't forget the judges (if you get to elect them).

(14,007 posts)If anything, the notion of a mostly white academic getting undeserved advancement by claiming native heritage would seem to need to be aimed at non-whites who would presumably be upset ...
But of course logic has nothing to do with Brown's campaign. He may be using race to stir up his supporters to consider voting against Obama while they're at it?
Elizabeth Warren could still use our help to keep up the momentum:

(6,785 posts)Warren is awesome enough, I think pretty much anyone would be happy to take her no matter how far back she had to go to find evidence of a link.
I think people are over thinking this: Brown and his followers are using it as an excuse to act like racist dicks. Any excuse will do.

(1,372 posts)When I was a kid my mother told me I was English, French and Indian.
I was proud and I told people this for 45 years. I mentioned it to my mother one day when I was
in my 40's. I said - We're part native American aren't we? - and she said, "Don't you wish?"
I was flabbergasted - she was the one who told me.
When I was in grammer school my mother told me I was related to Lizzie Borden.
We lived in New Bedford , MA and Lizzie Borden was from Fall River, MA so the
local history was well known. I told all my friends at achool.
I was in high school when the subject came up again and she said that
our relatives were named Bor-D-man (Bordman) and she made a mistake.
What is a kid supposed to do when they are 5 years old and they hear a proud parent announce that your relatives are doctors and lawyers and all the stuff that's supposed to make you proud about your heritage - are you supposed to ask for proof?
This was a child being told something about her family history from a parent or grandparent
that was a mistake (or maybe not - just not proven or documented - yet). The child had
no reason to doubt the source and was not savey enough to contact a lawyer before
spreading the story to her grammer school chums and there you go. What's the harm?
It happened to me twice!

Elizabeth Warren, whatever her heritage, is truly magnificent. Just as is our President.
Btw, my "baby" sis's husband is Native American (Eastern Shoshone) on his mother's side. He has two children from his first marriage to a woman of Western European heritage. Both of whom, now young adults, are beautiful human beings in every way. But anyone meeting them - without knowing their background - would not even realize that they are Native American.
Racism - even in liberal MA - is very close to the surface.

(95,337 posts)I truly do believe that Ms. Warren probably has Native American blood in her. Her family is from Oklahoma so there is a strong chance that in her family tree was some Native American ancestors. And it's not uncommon for someone who is a few generations out to have the heritage and yet not show any of the common feature.
But to do something as offensive as what Scott Brown did at his rally is just downright racist and will probably not win him any supporters. Massachusetts has a strong progressive backbone and I highly doubt the voters would want a racist asshole representing them in the prestigious seat once held by Ted Kennedy.

(12,754 posts)Eire Pub, where this occurred is a fixture in South Boston, formerly an almost all-white, Irish neighborhood. It's changed in recent years, but the roots go deep.
While it's nominally Democratic, "Southie" is packed to the brim with Reagan Democrats. They sign up as Democrats to get their jobs on the public tit, but they vote for the conservatives. Southie is the only Boston neighborhood that went for Brown in 2010.
Southie was ground zero for the sometimes violent anti-busing protests in Boston after the schools were ordered to be integrated because of what the court called de-facto segregation.
An iconic photo captures the mood of the protests -- although this one took place in front of city hall and not in Southie.
