Kenny Rogers Dead At 81

The singer-songwriter “passed away peacefully at home from natural causes,” his family announced on Twitter.
Kenny Rogers has died at the age of 81.

The country singer-songwriter “passed away peacefully at home from natural causes under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family” at 10:25 p.m. on Friday, his family announced on Twitter.

“In a career that spanned more than six decades, Kenny Rogers left an indelible mark on the history of American music,” Rogers’ family said in a statement shared online by the icon’s publicist, noting how his songs including “The Gambler,” “Islands In The Stream” and “Through the Years” had “endeared music lovers and touched the lives of millions around the world.”

A small private service will be planned “out of concern for the national COVID-19 emergency,” the family said, adding it looked forward to celebrating the Country Music Hall of Fame member’s life “publicly with his friends and fans at a later date.”
He was selling one of his Atlanta condos and my office handled the escrow. He came in with a small entourage of attorneys and was wearing a jogging suit. Years of plastic surgery had altered his facial features, and it took a few moments to really identify him. But then he smiled - and kept smiling - and spoke with us, and that beautiful Kenny Rogers voice was unmistakeable. For a few minutes we all got to hang out with him, and he was a kind, gentle soul with heart and humor. I wasn't his biggest fan, but that day I became one.

Rest in Peace, Kenny.

It was horrid and was unneeded. He looked damn good for an older guy and should have just gone with it.

". . .You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
Know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done. . ."

I liked his music and loved Kenny Rogers Roasters, his chicken restaurants. I was really bummed when they closed them.

Quite different from the Country Western stuff he did later.

It blew the minds of a few young people I know when they found out he did 'Just dropped in (To See What condition my condition was in)"
