Sheriff's Office obtains arrest warrant for pastor of Tampa church that held two large Sunday servic

The Hillsborough County Sheriffs Office has obtained an arrest warrant for the pastor of a Tampa megachurch who held two services on Sunday for scores of worshipers, violating a county order for residents to stay at home to limit the spread of coronavirus.
The Sheriffs Office warned Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne and church attorneys at The River at Tampa Bay Churchs not to put the congregation at risk of contracting and spreading the virus by holding services at his church, Sheriff Chad Chronister said at a news conference. The Sheriffs Office had received an anonymous tip that Howard-Browne was inviting the congregation to attend, even providing bus service to the church, Chronister said.
Howard-Browne refused to heed the warnings and held two large services on Sunday. A live stream on the churchs Facebook page showed congregants gathered for its Sunday morning Main Event service, many standing shoulder to shoulder while the church band played.
Because of the reckless disregard of public safety and after repeated requests and warnings, I worked with our state attorney, Andrew Warren, to obtain a warrant for unlawful assembly and violation of public health emergency rules, both of which are second degree misdemeanors, Chronister said. Our goal here is not to stop anyone from worshiping, but the safety and well-being of our community must always come first."

(507 posts)[State attorney, Andrew] Warren then took to the lectern and quoted the Bible.
Id remind the good pastor of Mark 12.31, which said theres no more important commandment than to love thy neighbor as thyself, Warren said. Loving your neighbors is protecting them, not jeopardizing their health by exposing them to this deadly virus.

(18,619 posts)I'm guessing the empty collection plate is his motivation to hold services. He could send someone door to door for tithes. Call it PrayPay.
Sadly, he's just putting the whole community at risk with his greed.

(3,567 posts)but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.
He has to know and fully understand: Matthew 22:37-39
37 Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.
Do not kill follows from love your neighbor.
I pray that he will see and repent his sin.

God has been punishing the faithful and sinful alike these days, but has largely shown mercy to the introverts and isolated hermits of the world.

(3,567 posts)Churches without central governance follow community standards.
Scripture is very clear about loving your neighbor. Most major denominations are enforcing this and many acted before they were told. The Episcopal Church for example shut down long before lock down. Also, the Pope has been very publicly demonstrating social distancing even though they emphasize group worship more than other denominations.
