Coronavirus: China reports no Covid-19 deaths for first time

Source: bbc

China reported no coronavirus deaths on Tuesday, the first time since it started publishing daily figures in January. The National Health Commission said it had 32 confirmed cases, down from 39 on Monday. It comes as the government is under scrutiny as to whether it is underreporting its figures.

The government says more than 3,331 people have died and 81,740 have been confirmed as infected. All of the confirmed cases on Tuesday had arrived from overseas. China is concerned a second wave of infections could be brought in by foreign arrivals. It has already shut its border to foreigners including those with visas or residence permits.

International flights have been reduced with both Chinese and foreign airlines only allowed to operate one international flight a week. Flights must not be more than 75% full. On Wednesday, Wuhan is set to allow people to leave the city for the first time since the lockdown began in January. Officials say anyone who has a "green" code on a widely used smartphone health app will be allowed to leave the city.

since they have since reopened from lockdown and people have been crowding their national parks and tourist sites to get out of the house. They could see a resurgence simply due to how crowded and populated they are. It only takes a few folks who didn't show symptoms and don't know they have it.

Either way, they need to shut down their wildlife markets permanently. People worry about it going underground as if it's America. China executes people for abusing pandas and imprisons people for having children without a permit so it works a bit differently under an authoritarian regime.

The Chinese government has been lying since day one.

The British government even says they believe this came from a lab in Wuhan, not the wet market.

Regardless of the source, their lies about the seriousness of the problem resulted in: (1) infected people flying all over the planet and (2) stealing probably two months of preparation from everyone. All this scrambling for respirators, PPE, hand sanitizer, and heck, TP could have been mitigated with a 60 day warning.

They either didn't care about the world or wanted it to happen, so we could be in the same boat as them.

A bipartisan group of people (and, heck, people from other countries) are talking about sticking China with the bill by canceling debt securities China owns from the US, England, Switzerland, Germany, etc. It's an interesting idea. They need to pay for this disaster.

And for supposed communists (ha!), they sure understand the power of money.

But is there any evidence that it was developed in a lab?

I'm totally on board with sticking them with the bill.

The main thing is the bat that is the normal host for this is not found within 800 miles of Wuhan.

But the bat -- and the virus -- were both known to be in the lab.

I suppose an infected bat could move along the chain-of-commerce and end up in Wuhan, but the way wet markets work is it is people making a little extra money on the side and selling/capturing local flora and fauna. So most everything is local. Think a really gross local farmers' market.

In my nine and a half decades on this planet, I suspect simple human stupidity and greed. Like maybe some flunky at the lab decided to make extra money selling bats he was supposed to put in the incinerator.
