'We alerted the world' to coronavirus on Jan. 5, WHO says in response to U.S.

Source: MPR News

Bill Chappell April 15, 2020 4:40 p.m.

"We regret the decision of the president of the United States to order a halt in funding to the World Health Organization," WHO Direct0r-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Wednesday in response to President Trump's plan to stop U.S. money from going to the agency.

The U.S. is the top contributor to the WHO, which is leading the fight against the COVID-19 global pandemic.

On Tuesday, Trump accused the WHO of "severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus." He also said the organization is overly influenced by China and was too trusting of that country, particularly in the early phase of the outbreak.

Through the middle of January, the president said, the WHO "parroted and publicly endorsed the idea that there was not human-to-human transmission happening despite reports and clear evidence to the contrary."

Remember that that The Dumpster reads, writes, listens and comprehends at a third grade level.

And his memory fades in hours, not days or months.

Remembering January is a huge task he cannot perform.

Only Congress can make that kind of funding change. He's bloviating again..posturing for the home crowd and dancing for the cameras.

IMO they should refuse to broadcast what he says that is not true as a violation of their license.

ignore it all, but keep in touch with family, like-minded friends (forget about the cult; they are long gone) and elected officials who actually get it. And support local business!

11. tRump twists a germ of truth in a full-blown case of tRump-fake-news.

Apr 2020

The germ is that the WHO in the very early days was appropriately cautious. Then they issued this statement:

14 January 2020   WHO's technical lead for the response noted in a press briefing there may have been limited human-to-human transmission of the coronavirus (in the 41 confirmed cases), mainly through family members, and that there was a risk of a possible wider outbreak. The lead also said that human-to-human transmission would not be surprising given our experience with SARS, MERS and other respiratory pathogens.
https://www.who.int/news-room/detail/08-04-2020-who-timeline---covid-19

I can't find any evidence they denied human to human transmission. Perhaps they might have, appropriately, said something like it has not been confirmed.

So tRump's germ of truth is the mid-January point.

But in a classic propaganda technique, he twists the rest of it into a DISTRACTING SLAM. He badly needs all the distractions he can get.

Further, if the WHO is so bad, how come his administration was not able to see through it then, with all the power of the world's mightiest and richest nation behind him?

The wanna-be king wants to have his cake and eat it too. Fundamentally he never trusted the WHO but claims he trusted them and they led him wrong.

Is that leadership?
