Global concert raises more than $127M for WHO emergency response fund

Source: CNN

Some of the world's top stars have helped to raise nearly $128 million for the World Health Organization during the coronavirus pandemic by performing in a concert broadcast globally.

Dozens of celebrities and musicians, including Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder and the Rolling Stones, took part in the 8-hour show called "One World: Together At Home."

Global Citizen, an international advocacy group that organized the event, said early Sunday on Twitter that $127.9 million had been pledged in donations.

Following the live broadcast, Global Citizen tweeted: "$127.9 million for COVID-19 relief. That is the power and impact of One World: #TogetherAtHome."

The concert was divided into two parts, a 6-hour "pre-show" and a main 2-hour show hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert.

overall, it didn't engage me they way I thought it might.

Too disjointed perhaps? I can't quite put my finger on it.
Plus three white men hosting, in this day and age?
Left me scratching my head.

But, great cause, so, kudos to Lady Gaga, et al.

Which is the majority of how most people watched it.

I thought it was pretty seamless considering the logistics of all those locations. Apparently Elton John’s basketball hoop was a big favorite.

However, the Rolling Stones song was lackluster I thought. Mick was in fine form, but poor Keith Richards may have had a few too many gin & tonics from the glass showing in the foreground view of his living room. But Charlie Watts air drumming on his furniture was a hoot!

Plus, it was not a fundraiser. The money had already been raised prior to the global concert event. However, during the event, links and info given on how everyone can volunteer to help their communities.

Plus, I really enjoyed staying at home on my couch in front of my TV!
I usually NEVER watch more than one episode of a TV show or maybe I’ll catch the news. I also never had time or money to go to concerts and live events.
