Trump adviser Kudlow says administration is looking 'very carefully' at a 'return-to-work bonus'

Trump administration signals interest in Republican Sen. Rob Portman's proposal of providing $450 a week for individuals returning to work

The line above came Tuesday from top White House economist Larry Kudlow, as he talked with Fox News about the Trump administration's interest in Sen. Rob Portman's proposal of providing $450 a week for individuals returning to work.

"Sen. Portman has a good idea. He understands incentives and disincentives," Kudlow said, adding that the CARES Act's $600 supplemental unemployment benefit may have been needed initially, but it's now a "major disincentive to go back to work."

The Republican Portman, Ohio's junior senator, said last week that "instead of keeping in place the additional $600 of the federal benefit for people on unemployment between now and July 31st," Washington should "shift some of those federal dollars to a back-to-work bonus."

Kudlow on Tuesday said the "$600 plus-up" will not "survive the next round of talks," referring to negotiations between the GOP and Democrats over another coronavirus aid package. The Democrat-run House is aiming to extend that $600 supplemental unemployment benefit to January 2021 and has included it in its $3 trillion HEROES Act.

-snip-

Two things jumped out at me..............Portman and this bunch don't give a shit about my life , family or anyone for that matter with their libertarian bullshit, and Portman makes $174,000.00 a year or $14,500.00 a month as senator and he voted to enable a IMPEACHED asshole go and walk free, so that because of his absolute abject failure with not having any common sense or smarts to get pats his ego that is about as big as his head will let it the country has over 100,000 + deaths, because he said it was a HOAX and that it would go away.............while he, Portman sitting at home in his safe confines, thinks its just fine and dandy that his leader goes and plays golf and doesn't say one peep about him while the country is in a national crises, but he thinks the $450.00 a week will cover the mortgage and the food........... ................. and the second item that popped into my head is this, the "let them eat cake" bullshit.
As for Kudlow the the same jerk, that said everything would be back to normal by May, he might as well place that tin foil hat on just a little tighter to completely cut off the circulation that is already lacking between his ears ..............and that he and Portman Have Blood On there collective Hands............and that the "stock capital" of this country's citizens is only worth $450.00 a week, thats it, $450.00..................... ..................and he his also a right to lifer........................ ......and then you also want the corporations to pay exactly how much into the payroll tax to attack social security for the said person only getting $450.00 bonus back to work...................... .............got it................

to the people who have already been rehired. That makes a whole lot of sense.

I guess I'll need to fire my employees for a week so I can hire them back so they can get the extra money.

People don't need a bribe to go back to work. They need safe work environments. Then they'll eagerly return. Spend the money on testing, tracing, and quarantining. The fact that this isn't already being done is absolutely crazy.

The whip crackers are trying to be creative in order to get their human stock to slaughter.

Talking about disincentives in regards to much needed financial lifeboats in the midst of a national crisis is another ring lower in the Republican Inferno and a bow to the Death Cult they represent.

I hope they know where they can shove that noise no matter how much they are trying to play the Feudal Lords and Serfs game we most of us have been drawn into now as we see.

Sen. Barney Fiefdom is making an example of how they want America to be from here on in. We may want to give that some serious consideration about our future and that of our children here.

They figure people will put pressure on employers to re-open faster so they can get a $450 bonus for being back at work.

Again - the virus didn't go away folks. It's still out there just trying to infect and kill you.

But I guess - Trump feels that if he can get people back to work and off unemployment - the economy will kick in faster and the unemployment numbers will go down.

What he's not planning for is the 2nd wave of this virus to rear its ugly head and kill even more people.

Let's see, If I stay on unemployment, I'm getting over $1,000 a week. If I go back to my low paying job, probably for limited hours, They're going to give me $450. Hmmmm….Decisions, Decisions.

Not a replacement.

It would be like thinking that the $600/week bonus that's there until the end of July is the entirety of unemployment benefits.

No, wait, there are people that actually think that.

There's a body of commentary out there running the numbers for various levels of pay in various states, unemployment + COVID $600/wk bonus. I ran numbers for my state, and given the information available I'd make more money on unemployment than working at a $59k/year job--and that's assuming I'm still paying taxes on unemployment.

An additional $450/wk for regular pay and minus unemployment + COVID bonus would be more.

But my job didn't go away, at least not yet. Then again, most jobs that did go away pay far less than $59k/year, and the lower the wage the more alluring the bonus.

if you work for a small company, (or maybe even a large one, for that matter) forget about asking for a raise for a few years. They'll just tell you they lost so much money during the shutdown they can't afford it. Of course, they will still be affording their 5,000 sq ft McMansions and their $80,000 cars.

Of course not.

I still wonder how tens of millions of Republicans gladly soaked up their stimulus checks without one peep about socialism or asking how we can even pay such a bill in light of the deficit....you know, like they did to the Democrats every single day that Obama was in office.

If each one got $1,200 a month for 6 months, that would have equaled
$273,600,000,000. Yes $273.6 Billion

Almost $1 Trillion less than the CARES first package of $1.2 Trillion,
but then this money would have gone to workers and not corporations.

I personally think that maybe $2,000 per month would have worked for
everyone and it still would have been more that $740 Billion less than
the CARES package.

Just a thought.
