Schwarzenegger bucks GOP: I performed same sex weddings as governor
Source: Raw Story
Arnold Schwarzenegger recently floored veteran CBS reporter Leslie Stahl by revealing that he had rejected the Republican Party platform and performed multiple same sex weddings while still serving as the governor of California.
I always said I have nothing against people doing what they want to do, Schwarzenegger told Stahl in an interview that will air Sunday on CBS. If a couple wants to get married, they should get married. I personally always said that marriage is between a man and a woman, but I never would enforce my will on people. I always want people to make that decision. If they want to get married, let them get married.
Stahl reminded the former governor that he had once called his chief of staff a cigar smoking lesbian.
She got married. Did you go to the wedding? the CBS reporter wondered.
I performed the wedding in the office, Schwarzenegger replied with a smile. I married her in the office in the governors office. I dont have to be for gay marriage. Im for that she gets the kind of wedding and the kind of ceremony that I had when I got married with Maria [Shriver]. That she happens to love a woman and I am a guy that loves a woman, that is two different things, that doesnt make any difference. She should still have her ceremony.

(43,123 posts)so was Arnold aware he was a GOP front man, or does he just
go against their tide as a sign of independence? Because there
is no room for free thinking in the GOP.

(89,244 posts)sounds more like he is just getting back at the republicans who have no use for him now that the stuff most of us knew about had been exposed. along with bush, cheney, palin he was another one not invited to the convention and campaiging as he did in previous years.
he was a failure as governor.

much of a law and order repube he was when in cut in half a legal prison sentence on the son of one of
his cronies for that son's part in the cold-blooded murder of Luis Dos Santos.
Arnold didn't bat an eye when he did this...he is a cold-hearted asshole and a lousy Governor.

(23,369 posts)It's funny when politicians say "marriage is between a man and a woman." They use it in a declaratory sense, leaving wiggle room for it to mean anything.

(2,959 posts)oh wait, that didn't happen. Well I can at least recall how consistently and loudly he spoke out in favor of gay marriage, oh wait, that never happened either.
I guess gay people will have to be satisfied with some mealy mouthed tale told to sell his new book. way to go Arnold. What a supportive and stand up kind of guy.
