5. Yeah, this story will be sad and stupid.

Did the person in the SUV brandish? Did the shooter respond in self-defense?

When all you've got is a hammer...

8. An AP article said it had been a peaceful demonstration until pro-cops protesters arrived:

Utah man arrested in shooting that wounded driver at protest
Brady Mccombs, Associated Press Updated 5:39 pm EDT, Wednesday, July 1, 2020

. . .

Taggart declined to talk with officers when he was arrested, a probable cause statement said. He is being held in jail on $41,700 bail. It's unclear if he has an attorney who can speak on his behalf.

He doesn't appear to be affiliated with any of the groups at the protest, but he was walking with people rallying against police brutality, King said. Protest organizers told authorities they didn't know Taggart. The rally also included some people showing support for police.

. . .

Last paragraph:

The night started as another in a string of mostly peaceful protests in Utah decrying the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. But it became tense when pro-police protesters arrived, according to people who were there. People protesting police brutality started to block traffic at intersections, and then the man was shot.

You might recall there are headlines claiming Taggart is a "BLM activist." The stories never explain how he is a BLM activist, at all.

Another article says Taggart is being held without bond, as he lives in a mobile home. . .

Salt Lake City man, Ogden woman arrested in connection to Provo protest shooting
By Ryann Richardson Daily Herald 4 hrs ago

Taggart and Darling are currently being held at the Utah County Jail under $42,980 and $25,010 bail, respectively. Arresting officers have petitioned the court for Taggart to be held without bail as he lives in a mobile home with no permanent address and is likely to flee the state, according to the probable cause statement.
