These 13 states need to lock down now, according to Harvard coronavirus experts

Source: Yahoo News

"Right now, that would mean 13 of the Trump task force's 21 red-zone states returning to lockdown: Florida (with a staggering 48.1 new daily cases per 100,000 people), Louisiana (46.2), Mississippi (43.5), Alabama (39.1), Arizona (36.6), Tennessee (34.1), Georgia (33.8), Nevada (33.0), South Carolina (30.1), Texas (27.9), Idaho (27.5), Arkansas (26.4) and Oklahoma (25.6). "

Mention of these 13 states is way down in article

...Yes, way down...many paragraphs..I posted it, because that is what is most important in the article, and locking down, could save lives. Florida governor would have to admit he made a mistake by opening too soon. But I do not think he will, we all know why, he is a total asshole, but closing down again would probably save lots of lives.

With this haphazard approach. There should have been a full, mandatory national lockdown. Attacking it piecemeal was incredibly stupid.

Not as long as Kemp, that foaming, raging, fool is in office. I never thought I'd see a worse Georgia politician than Saxby Chambliss, but now there are two: Gov. Kemp and Rep. Collins.

in 1964 when Maddox closed down his PicRic restaurant. Some of us gathered in a car and drove by and happened to catch him as he was leaving and locking the restaurant. We thought he might motion us over and give us ax handles, but he didn't.

By 1966, when he lost the election for governor of Georgia, I was in the Army, at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. Even though he lost, the Georgia house of rep. elected him governor, much to the glee of my fellow soldiers (I was the only one from Georgia, and, inideed, the south). As is well-known, everything went downhill from there.

But I didn't loathe and detest ol' Lester the way I despise Kemp & Collins. At least Maddox was entertaining, riding his bicycle backwards.

tourist town overload in Ketchum/Sun Valley back in March/April. I'm not surprised. Montana isn't too far behind with all these tourists passing through. I'm staying isolated more now than I was in March/April.

Idaho has lots of rumpers and church people.

... after seeing their Governor's debate in 2014. This is a tiny sampling of it:

I'm often disappointed in Ohio, but I crossed Idaho off my places to visit after seeing that debate.

Cases should be very low in Idaho given their low population density, but I'm starting to think there could be worse right-wingers there than even WV.

Cases in NM are starting to increase and it's tempting to blame happy vacationers from AZ and TX. Although we have some pretty strict mask and quarantine laws, they're difficult to enforce with the tourists coming in to vacation rentals.

People filling shelves had a mask on & most if not all of the cashiers had on masks. Sign as you walked in said..."All people must wear protection if coming in" or words similar.

The map that accompanies this article shows California as bright red, because the map counts total cases. Totally misleading.

Harvard is issuing this warning not on the basis of total cases, but per capita. Our reporting needs to be adjusted so that the maps read per capita as well.

since...March. Total cases is useless information if you just want to look at the numbers and see what states aren't doing great and which are doing pretty well. California is far down the list per capita. On Worldometer, thankfully you can reshuffle the list based on any of the columns. Reshuffle according to per capita, cases and deaths, and you see a whole different story. Looking at you, Louisiana!

..............What is wrong with people?? This is very serious and life threatening. And this is not a "stupid game" as some people think. This wearing a mask and gloves is life & death prevention. The same people who will not wear a mask, put on a seat belt when they get into a car and sit down.

Thank God for LaToya Cantrell and John Bel Edwards. The problem is under some control in NOLA, the problem is the redder areas of the state where nobody ever liked the lockdown, many ignored it, but the virus also wasn't introduced as early (most likely by a Mardi Gras visitor). Now that it's bad in those areas nobody wants to admit they were wrong about its seriousness or "go backward" and explaining math to these yahoos is like trying to teach a parrot Calculus.

[no need to get started on the theft of the '16 election, as Greg Palast has cogently analyzed (spoiler alert -- it wasn't Russia) and the utter failure of national Democratic Party OR the mainstream media to even gesture in the direction of doing squat about it]

...Illinois, which had a rough day, is at 13.5 per 100k today. The 7 day average is at close to 8/100k.
New York is averaging around 700 new cases per day. That only a bit over 3 per 100k.
That suggest Florida is 6x Illinois, and 16 times NY.

Our governor has been doing her damnedest to protect us, to deal with our hot spots, to channel resources into helping people survive, to keeping the economy on life support...

and it was working! We had hot spots and problems but in general we had one of the highest testing rates and things were generally staying within the grasp of control.

And then the Texasses and Zonies started swarming in, unmasked and doucherriffic... and our hospitals began to fill with cases from neighboring states who fucked up their own response and were exceeding their capacity.

Our numbers are inching back up and our capacity to deal with our own people is even less than it was back in April and May, thanks to the asshole neighbors.

disgustedly,
Bright
