Nationwide debate over school safety from cor...

Two suburban Atlanta school districts that began in-person classes Monday with mask-optional policies face more questions about COVID-19 safety protocols after on-campus pictures showed students packed shoulder-to-shoulder. The day after school resumed, one school announced a second grader tested positive for the coronavirus, forcing the child's teacher and classmates to be sent home to quarantine for two weeks, CBS affiliate WGCL-TV reports.

In Cherokee County, dozens of seniors gathered at two of the district's six high schools to take traditional first-day-of-school senior photos, with students squeezing together in black outfits. Here's a better photo which has been circulating. You can see kid's faces and count how few have masks.

The Paulding County School Superintendent, Brian Otott, is a fucking moron. He sent an email to staff and parents in response to these photos being circulated saying that it takes at least 15 minutes of close exposure to catch the virus, and that he stands by his decisions to send kids and teachers back to school while not mandating masks (which he calls a personal decision). What he totally doesn't get is that, just like with smoking, it's not the victims decision to breath air that can kill them.

I truly feel sorry for the entire student body and teaching/ admin/support staff. Same with athletics. Unless you're on the golf or x-country teams, forget it. You're not safe.

Not only does the teacher and classmates have to quarantine, but the parents of the second grader have to notify their employer(s). Co-workers may have been exposed and should quarantine

covid from him. People are already infectious before they start showing symptoms. If he tested positive, likely he was infectious and might have infected other children and teachers, thus the need for them to go into quarantine.

-- Cherokee & Paulding counties. Such a drag for these kids and their families that their health is subject to the Trump loyalists governing their school systems.
