Exclusive: Trump campaign seeks early September presidential debate
Source: Axios
The Trump campaign is asking the Commission on Presidential Debates to move up the first presidential debate to the first week in September to get ahead of an expected surge in early voting.
Driving the news: President Trump's personal attorney, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, made the request in a letter dated Wednesday and obtained by Axios.
Giuliani has been leading the campaign's discussions with the debate commission, which also include asking the commission to add a fourth debate.
If the commission declines to add a fourth debate, the letter asks that the debate currently scheduled for Oct. 22 be moved up to the first week in September, before before the first ballots are sent on Sept. 4 in North Carolina.

(302 posts)Change the format from in-person to Zoom etc. Have the moderator ask a question of Trump. Give him 2 minutes. Then cut the feed from Trump and provide 1 minute for fact checking. Give Joe 2 minutes. Cut the feed from Joe and provide 1 minute for fact checking. Go back and forth like this. Sure it is going to slow the debate. But since Trump is not operating in good faith, and will try to run over the opponent, then this has to happen. And let's get the best team of fact checkers possible. It will be entertaining to see how Trump does in this arrangement. Otherwise, it is a loud-mouth bully in a bar -- as in the 2016 debates.

(3,148 posts)You can fact check Trump all day, it won't change a damned vote. The people who are going to vote for him will do so because he hates the people they hate and wants to hurt the people they want to hurt. The people who aren't going to vote for him just assume that everything he says is a lie.

(62,406 posts)against Biden that some who may have come out and voted for Biden will not vote. It is another form of voter suppression. Therefore immediate fact checking should be a necessity.

(19,193 posts)with his ego-maniacal bluster and endless lies there's no good way to combat his "debate" style. Without someone fact-checking him every second he'll try to get away with murder, literally. Biden gains nothing by "debating" the Orange Jackass.

(5,443 posts)and that Joe is too slow to keep up with Trump. He also thinks Joe is boring compared to himself. Trump is going to be in for a very rude awakening, as Paul Ryan was in 2012. Joe is good in one on one debates-- he did great against Bernie this year- and he knows that Trump is a conman who is ill-informed, probably not even at Sarah Palin's level of understanding.

(5,477 posts)After I posted something about tRump going off the rails a few weeks ago about the results of his dementia tests, he mentioned that the debates will be showcasing Joe Biden's lack of competency.
I told him I was looking forward to the debates, as we would all then be able to see a very stark comparison firmly showing which candidate was most able to provide the most complete, relevant, and lucid answers to the debate questions.
I got no further responses.

(720 posts)I read this somewhere and I think it's a great idea. Trump's just going to lie his ass off, and it's impossible to debate someone who shows up and participates in such bad faith. You can't discuss ideas when you're spending the whole time addressing the fact that your opponent is lying about everything he says. Just throw it back on him and put him on the defensive over one of his glaring weak spots and his unquestionable flouting of norms for presidential candidates.

(29,674 posts)Zoom with mics muted while anyone else is speaking. Stick within exact time frames. Allow fact checkers to verbally state when the facts are not true. Hell, let the fact checkers cross ex the candidates.
