Source: Mass Transit

City officials announced continued restricted access to the downtown Loop through the upcoming weekend, according to the Office of Emergency Management and Communication.

Downtown access will be restricted from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night through Monday morning. Closures include portions of Lake Shore Drive, some expressway ramps and some Divvy bike stations, as well as temporary train suspensions overnight. Some bridges will be raised.

The restricted access began after several days of civil unrest in the Loop area, according to the office.

Public transportation will also be affected. Nightly train service between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. the next morning will be temporarily suspended in the downtown area, according to the CTA.

Bridges raised, no nighttime trains. It’s hard for night workers, but there’s not much going on in the office-heavy Loop area even in the day. (I did go to my dentist in the Loop the other week, but did not take the train as I usually would anyway; got dropped off and picked up in car from obliging spouse. Could’ve walked, but it was in the mid-90s).

It’s a pretty big radius though, extending for about a three-mile radius. What I like about it is that it keeps the bar crowds out, or at least home very early.
