Boris Johnson says UK should prepare for a no-deal Brexit and 'Australia-style' future

Source: The Guardian

And given that they have refused to negotiate seriously for much of the last few months and given that this summit appears explicitly to rule out a Canada-style deal, I’ve concluded that we should get ready for 1 January with arrangements that are more like Australia’s, based on simple principles of global free trade.

And we can do it because we always knew that there would be change on 1 January whatever type of relationship we had.

And so now is the time for our businesses to get ready and for our hauliers to get ready, for travellers to get ready.

There is no such thing as an Australian deal. What they mean is no deal. The issue now is does he actually mean it or is he trying to bounce the EU into softening their position. It won't work. So 4 years after the referendum we will be on WTO trading rules in the middle of a pandemic and the worst recession in 400 years. The people that run the UK are criminal in disregard for our security and the impact that this will have particularly on the most vulnerable.

I would not be surprised if Scotland declared itself independent and joined the EU. Boris Johnson had no clue what Brexit would do to the country.

Scotland and NI will be certainly in play. The Welsh have also made a few mumbles regarding forming a new "Britain" without the actual England part.

The future is staying in the EU, not leaving it.

NI has an actual secession mechanism, Scotland it will be tougher without one.

Single common currency and full access to the EU common market.

German and French transfer payments as well. Life would be better for them under the Franco-German alliance.

If BoJo does a hard brexit, there will be a border poll and a Scottish independence referendum.

I agree with you...100 percent.

England can do nothing about Irish reunification if the referendum is a yes on both sides.

Scotland will be much stickier.

If a border poll calls for reunification, it will be terribly difficult for the gov of the day to deny the Scots a new referendum. We are living through history right now.

I can't sympathize one bit for england as elections have consequences and they have had a couple over the past 4 years to correct the situation. Here in the US we have our 2nd chance with 2018 being a huge success and no doubt the 2020 outcome will be a similar success.

The United States is a dying empire. That will not change no matter who we elect. Joe Biden will at least work hard to make things better for the average folks.

There are a lot of parallels to the Roman Empire.

Australia is less screwed up than the US and the UK, but their prime minister s a right-wing climate denier. Murdoch’s media have totally contributed to the right-wing, populist movements here and in the UK that helped elect Trump and bring about Brexit. The Russians helped as well.

Only England...and maybe Wales...maybe.

NI will be reunified with Ireland, and Scotland will be a fully independent EU member nation.

Eventually the United States is going to break up. Electing Joe Biden is only going to delay the inevitable. Trump is a symptom and not the actual disease. The disease is that the United States is now a dying empire in the convulsionary stage.

If Trump steals the election, the break up will happen with 2-3 years.
