Trump Compares Files on Hunter Biden's Computer to Anthony Weiner Scandal

At a campaign event in Macon, Georgia on Friday, President Donald Trump compared files allegedly found on Hunter Biden's laptop with explicit pictures discovered on former Congressman Anthony Weiner's computer by the FBI.

Files on a laptop with a Biden Foundation sticker on it, which allegedly connected Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden to shady business dealings in Ukraine, were reported on by the New York Post on Wednesday. While Trump has brought up the allegations during public remarks in the following days, some observers have criticized the story for using uncorroborated sources. Weiner pleaded guilty in 2017 to sending obscene material to a minor and was sentenced to 21 months in prison.

"Between Anthony Weiner's laptop and this laptop," Trump said, referring to this computer, "these are two beauties. I think this one could be worse than the Weiner laptop."

Newsweek reached out to the Trump campaign for further comment.

After months of investigation by the FBI, two Republican-led Senate committees unveiled a report in September that found no evidence of wrongdoing or corrupt actions by the former vice president in connection with his son Hunter's business dealings in Ukraine.

But Trump and Giuliani have continued to lob allegations at the Democratic nominee, despite multiple investigations, including the recent GOP probes, that have found no basis for the claims.

17. Psychological ploy

When he makes the comparison, the mind shifts to compare the two items, and stops considering whether something is true or not. Since the comparison is plausible, you tend to stop asking if either part is true, and just concentrate on whether the two-part comparison is true.

That way he gets away with smearing Hunter Biden, even though there is no proof of any kind that the story they made up is true. So, it gives a kind of shine of legitimacy to it, and creates talking points like the smear is true.

Trump truly is a disgusting creature. I'll bet there is nobody on the planet who believes this crap. But, he's going to push it because that's all he's got. He has no success to run on, the GOP didn't bother to write or publish a platform that they cared to run on, and any traction they get depends on people unable to tell when they're being conned.
