Neo-Nazi And Proud Boys Groups Push Trump Campaign Poll Watching Online: Reports

Source: ABC News/MSN

Officials in multiple states are taking aggressive steps to protect voters from efforts by militias or other armed groups seeking to congregate near polling places on Election Day, as simmering online activity indicates that some groups are trying to register as campaign poll watchers for Donald Trump's campaign.

In Michigan, an open carry state, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson on Friday announced a ban on open carry firearms at and near polls. "Michiganders should know that law enforcement across multiple levels is working together to ensure that anyone who wishes to exercise their right to vote in person on Election Day can do so safely and without the threat of intimidation," said Col. Joe Gasper, the state's police director.

New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal issued a statement, also on Friday, that reiterated guidance for local law enforcement to help protect voters. Poll watchers "may not harass or intimidate voters, engage in electioneering, cause disturbances at polling places or challenge voters based on their race or ethnicity or how they are expected to vote," the statement said.

Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo said at a Thursday press conference that she's "putting security provisions in place" to assure voters "there's no place for violence, there's no place for threats."...

The steps are in response to online accounts tied to neo-Nazi sympathizers and "alt-right" groups such as the Proud Boys that have been generating posts encouraging supporters to join the campaign's Election Day operations, according to 2 new reports this week.

Efforts include sending out links to poll-watching registration sites for the Trump campaign's so-called 'Army for Trump,' a project working to recruit thousands of supporters to sign up as campaign poll watchers on Election Day.

Poll watchers must be appointed by the parties and be registered voters in the county where they will be poll watchers. Poll watchers must display their ID as a watcher at all times and may not converse with or challenge a voter.

I suspect the Proud Boys haven’t bothered learning the rules for poll watchers. They may find that there are laws saying what they can and cannot do, like being armed to the teeth and directly challenging minority voters in line to vote.

Just a shove, but when these loons are armed, it could get a lot worse:

Gary Pendleton was an official Republican poll observer at the Northern Regional Center on East Holding Avenue in Wake Forest, where he was charged with a misdemeanor assault. Pendleton, 73, served in the N.C. General Assembly from 2015 to 2017 and is a former Wake County commissioner and retired brigadier general.

Pendleton said he pushed a poll worker who blocked him from entering the polling site.
...
Pendleton had been a poll observer at Roberts Community Center in Raleigh on Thursday, and said he was allowed to enter the site early to observe poll workers. When he was denied early entry on Friday, he said he asked the poll worker in Wake Forest what was he was trying to hide.
...
Observers are generally not allowed in to polling places early, Sims said, but some had been on the first day of voting.

“We communicated with them today that they shouldn’t be doing that,” Sims said. “The site he went to today they were following what they were supposed to be doing.”

That's a retired state legislator, county commissioner and senior military officer. Someone you'd expect to be level-headed. But he felt privileged, and went too far. If he was 40, or 50, years younger, and armed (or just reckons he could win a fist fight), like the "watchers" the Republicans and Nazis are preparing, there'd be blood.

Trump says all Democrats are using "illegal" mail-in voting, so wouldn't the only people standing in line to vote on election day be Trump supporters?

for defunding the police coming from the left? Nah, they'll just have some fun cracking some heads with their batons and being legal bullies for the corporatocracy. If they show up at all since they might be put into a situation where they were 'in fear for their lives'. (Quite possibly the greatest excuse for fascism I have ever heard.)
