Biden takes the lead in Pennsylvania

Washington (CNN) Former Vice President Joe Biden has taken the lead in his birth state of Pennsylvania as the number of outstanding ballots has dwindled, putting the Democrat within striking distance of the 270 electoral votes that he needs to win the White House.

CNN has not yet called the commonwealth for the former vice president, but for Biden -- a son of Scranton -- eclipsing Trump in the Keystone State was a symbolic moment in the course of a political career that has spanned nearly five decades.

With the latest batch of tabulated vote counts released Friday morning, Biden now has a lead of 5,587 votes in the state.

During the long and hard-fought primary Democratic primary, Biden repeatedly made the case that he alone could sway the blue-collar voters who abandoned his party to support Donald Trump in 2016 and could rebuild the Democrats' "blue wall" in the Midwest that Trump had demolished.

It's been jarring to see AP give Biden 264 electoral votes while pretty much everyone else that counts gives him 253.

Not a conspiracy theorist, but it sure seems like CNN and MSNBC are needlessly dragging this out. They evidently plan to milk "too close to call" for the rest of the day.

I will bet dollars to donuts as soon as PA is called, NV and AZ will be called for Biden, too. GA seems genuinely too close to call and going to a recount. NC isn't re-starting counting until 11/12.

well that's accurate, but MSNBC keeps saying he's been 'running for President since 1988'. I just find that untrue. He's been a Senator, or a Vice President. He was a candidate for President in many of those years Presidential election years. They make it sound like it's been an annual crusade. Just ain't true. Joe doesn't have that much ego in my view.
