Trump campaign lawsuit will seek to block certification of Michigan election results

Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican President Donald Trump's campaign said on Tuesday it would file a lawsuit in Michigan requesting the results of the U.S. election in the state not be certified until it could be verified that votes were cast lawfully.

The new lawsuit is the latest in a string of lawsuits the Trump campaign has filed in an effort to keep hopes of a second term for Trump alive after former Vice President Joe Biden became president-elect on Saturday.

"We want to make sure that no vote tally includes fraudulently or unlawfully cast ballots," Trump campaign attorney Matt Morgan told reporters on a conference call.

-snip-

Judges already have tossed lawsuits in Michigan and Georgia, and legal experts have said Trump's litigation has little chance of changing the outcome of the election.

It’s incumbent upon the plaintiff to provide evidence of fraud. The defendant state does not have to prove that no fraud existed. They’re batting zero on these suits. It’s just mendacious and frivolous, an attempt to throw shade on the results.

Pay for them at 3 million a recount, so they pull this??

The vote was overseen by the gop and tallies were correct, but we want to block certification?
Delay tactics..where’s the evidence that votes weren’t cast lawfully?

Somehow I don’t think team Biden is going to play along, nor will the courts

but it seems to me like the courts, at some point, would get fed up with these frivolous law suits and start penalizing the parties that are bringing them. I am sure that courts have a way of taking care of situations like this. Obstruction of Justice or Contempt of Court charges.

The reason weeks are set aside by law between the vote and the filing of results is so that elections officials have time to canvass those results. TrumpCo wants to canvass the canvass, mostly just to sow confusion, push conspiracy theories, collect more campaign cash, and hope for a miracle which might include getting a high court decision taking away Biden's win. If TrumpCo wants to get upset about something real (I know, I know), tell them about touch-screen voting machines that return a paper QR code to the voter as "proof" his or her ballot was recorded but not proof it was properly recorded. Or get upset about electronic voting machines in general, which are convenient but which are too fraught with potential problems. Oh, but Republicans *like* those kinds of problems. It's the Help America Vote Our Way Act. While your vote should remain secret, it shouldn't remain secret from you.
