Scoop: Trump eyes digital media empire to take on Fox News

Source: Axios

President Trump has told friends he wants to start a digital media company to clobber Fox News and undermine the conservative-friendly network, sources tell Axios.

...snip...

Here's Trump's plan, according to the source
* There's been lots of speculation about Trump starting a cable channel. But getting carried on cable systems would be expensive and time-consuming.
* Instead, Trump is considering a digital media channel that would stream online, which would be cheaper and quicker to start.
* Trump's digital offering would likely charge a monthly fee to MAGA fans. Many are Fox News viewers, and he'd aim to replace the network — and the $5.99-a-month Fox Nation streaming service, which has an 85% conversation rate from free trials to paid subscribers — as their top destination.

Just another one of his collosal delusions of grandeur...........

Besides, Trump and his spawn won't have any time to start any business, because they will more than likely be tied up giving depositions and attending endless, non-stop court appearances, and trying to figure out how to get bail money.......

I'm no lawyer, but I think some of the people that are after him will have the ability to freeze his assets....

Trump, Jared and Ivanka will probably be working overtime for the next few months shredding, and collecting all the U.S. intelligence they can, to sell to Putin, Saudis, etc.

He already is about to outgrow his usefulness to the RepubliCONs, Putin, etc. What makes him think they will come to his aid?????

This country has SADLY failed its infrastructure. A large portion of the country won't (DOESN'T) have high-speed internet.

Even the areas that do are often held together with duct tape. Good luck being able to afford the monthly fees. $5.99 would only pay for the tRump shit stream.

You would need an internet provider.....

The average advertised package for standalone internet service in the United States is around $50 per month during the initial promotional offer and about $60 per month after the promotional period ends. Jan 17, 2020

You would likely need a cellphone provider with a huge data package so you won't miss one second of his bullshit.
Americans aged 25-64, paid $114 a month on average for cell phone service in 2018, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. That's a staggering annual cost of $1,368 per person!

Don't forget the smart TV and cellphones with an average cost of....
The statistic shows the average price of smartphones in the United States from 2014 to 2024. The average price of a smartphone in the consumer segment in the United States is forecast to reach 580.27 U.S. dollars in 2020.Oct 6, 2020

If you are a numbers person try this analysis from WIRED.

Yes, Donny please go streaming. So just like everything else you have ever touched you will bleed your customers dry then fail and blame someone else.

Basic package which includes international calls and plenty of streaming. We've got Netflix which is running about 12€/month.

Paying about 50€/month for 2 mobiles with data - could get that down, but we're dealing with other stuff right now, and it's not important. We still have an American mobile for banking - 20€/month.

Doubt that those kinds of prices are available in the US.

option, but his good buddy Chris Ruddy already has a newsmax TV channel that's carried on cable and satellite and will be part of Comcast's basic cable package just as Fox New is. Getting in on newsmax would fit Trump's OPM business model but he's have to share whatever profits are had.

They're watching FOX now because it comes with their cable package or over airwaves. I'd be surprised if the vast majority -- many of whom live on pensions, minimum wage, or pay check-to-paycheck -- would spring for a subscription.

Trump media could offset some expense by selling advertising and lowering the streaming rate. Also valuable to them are e-mails and contact/demographic info. All that can be resold.

"I'm not complaining — I'm just telling people," Trump added. "It's one of the biggest differences this season compared to last."

Most of Trump's support/appeal is from the rural areas of this country. Go ahead and try and start or invest in a streaming service aimed at folks that already have very poor digital service to begin with.

Folks, beware of attempts to spend tax money on bringing rural areas into the digital age. This is what you're going to get. More tax transfers to states and counties that can't support themselves without getting help from the suburban and urban areas. If socialism is broadly defined as getting something with other people's money then it's high time we ask these folks to practice their principles.
