Elon Musk says he 'most likely' has COVID-19, questions tests

Tech mogul Elon Musk on Saturday said he most likely has a moderate case of COVID-19 while continuing to question the accuracy of coronavirus tests.
In response to a Twitter user asking if he had the coronavirus the Tesla CEO tweeted, Am getting wildly different results from different labs, but most likely I have a moderate case of covid. My symptoms are that of a minor cold, which is no surprise, since a coronavirus is a type of cold.
A little up & down. Feels just like a regular cold, but more body achy & cloudy head than coughing/sneezing. DayQuil rocks, wrote Musk when asked by another Twitter user about his symptoms.
He added that he was being tested by several different labs and said he had requested an N1 gene PCR cycle. Reuters notes polymerase chain reaction tests (PCR) are more accurate than rapid testing.

I dont believe him.

I don't think he's questioning science; he's just a stickler for quality control.

(2,336 posts)I cannot stand him. In my opinion he's worse than tRump. Entitled (don't know if he earned his money the old fashioned way and I don't really care) jerk. He thinks he's so smart (he is) but his arrogance makes him ignorant.

(25,848 posts)which is not generally known. I believe false negatives tend to outweigh the false positives, but even so, they just aren't as good as they ought to be.
He is wrong that this coronavirus is a type of cold.

(108,976 posts)But for people who have symptoms, as he does, the positive tests are very accurate.
He also claims it is like a cold except he says he doesn't have sniffles or a cough -- which is what you get with a cold. He says he has brain fog and body aches and pains. That, together with the positive results he doesn't want to believe, means he has Covid.

(29,199 posts)massive headache, slight fever, sore throat, body ache...
but it's the fatigue, shortness of breath just trying to talk normal ( on a headset ), and this weird runny nose. Oh, and my blood O2 dropped to 90... normally is 96/97.
and now, weeks after the onset of symptoms, I still need a nap every day ( getting better ), and I still have this runny nose.
tested negative for active ( or inactive ) twice now.
running out of breath from climbing one set of stairs ( like Trump returning to the White House from Walter Reed ) scared the crap out of me... not being able to complete a sentence without running out of breath... like I was back in Colorado climbing the summit of a fourteener.
And I'm one of the 80% of the "lucky ones" who get this and survive with not many ill effects.
BTW, I know exactly how I got it because for the entire year ( before most of us even heard of Covid-19 ) I've been WFH and isolated... extremely careful... except for one day when I had lunch with my niece at an outdoor restaurant and their were some children seated not too far way, running around screaming with no masks... and outdoors was still in a tent. I should have not sat down at all... come back another time... something. But I didn't... 3 days later sore throat, headache etc... 2 days after that a positive PCR test.

(108,976 posts)and body aches -- not the sniffles or a cough.
What he was describing is like a common manifestation of early Covid -- not like a cold. But he's invested in downplaying this -- and has been since last March.

(5,719 posts)A lot of people who get it have mild or no symptoms at all. The vast majority of people who are dying from it have underlying conditions which are exacerbated by the disease.

(6,931 posts)conditions that killed them. Really?!? Thing is they didn't go running to the hospital because of an "underlying" condition, they went because they were positive for cv.
Hell...using that Trump logic then no one died of AIDS it was just a sudden stoppage of breathing that killed them.

(30,613 posts)in no way does that cause us to question the misery and deaths of those who are not so lucky. It's just the way it is.

(108,976 posts)so he's invested in that idea. And just a few days ago he was insisting that the tests were bad, because he got positives and negatives on the tests that are known to have high false negatives.
So if he says "probably" he means, "Shit. I'm f***ed."
