California imposes overnight curfew to stem coronavirus

Source: Associated Press

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California is imposing an overnight curfew on most residents as the most populous state tries to head off a surge in coronavirus cases that it fears could tax the state’s health care system, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Thursday.

What officials are calling a limited stay-at-home order requires nonessential residents to stay home from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Saturday.

It affects counties with the most severe restrictions, 41 of the state’s 58 counties that are in the “purple” tier under California’s color-coded system for reopening the economy. That covers 94% of the state’s nearly 40 million residents.

using outdoor seating. Newsome’s latest PR missteps are going to undermine this effort, and I expect many counties - including the one I’m in, sadly - will simply fail to comply in any meaningful fashion.

The bars here are already closed and the local sheriff publicly announced she will not enforce the curfew like she said she wouldn’t enforce the mask order. Fucked up county in a fucked up country.

Something had to be done—especially with the holidays approaching and people meeting up, talking, drinking, hugging...plus most of it will be indoors because of the colder temperatures.

Our local Sherriff already released a statement saying "this is a public health crisis and we are not going to solve it by arresting people and making criminals out of the members of our community."

Newsom is the poster child for the "limousine liberal." He has lost much credibility in dealing with this pandemic, our state is in an economic mess, and the homelessness crisis has only gotten worse. Unless he's able to turn all of this around in two years, he will most likely lose to anyone who runs against him in 2022.
