GOP lawmaker says he's been called a 'traitor' by people close to him for recognizing Biden win

Source: The Hill

Outgoing GOP Rep. Denver Riggleman (Va.) said Monday that people close to him have called him a “traitor” for recognizing President-elect Joe Biden as the victor in the 2020 White House race.

Riggleman, a former intelligence officer and Air Force veteran, was asked by CNN’s John Berman why more Republican lawmakers weren't speaking out about President Trump’s unfounded claims of widespread voter fraud.

"I don't know what's in their hearts, and I wish I could tell you. I've tried to call. I've tried to talk to individuals about this,” Riggleman said. “And by the way my own — well, I shouldn't say this exactly — but people very close to me have called me pretty much a traitor to the cause because of my belief in data and statistical analysis and technology and people that have taken an oath to the Constitution."

...

Riggleman praised Christopher Krebs, the former head of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) who was fired by Trump earlier this month, for standing by the election results during an interview on CBS's “60 Minutes” over the weekend.

Clearly these accusers have little allegiance to our country or constitution.

The Rappahannock County Republican Party criticized Riggleman after he officiated a same-sex wedding between two of his friends, and in September he was censured by party officials who claimed that he had "abandoned party principles" over fiscal and immigration policy.

On September 26, 2019, Campbell County Supervisor Bob Good—who also worked as an athletics official at Liberty University—announced his intention to challenge Riggleman in the 2020 Republican primary. In his announcement, Good accused Riggleman of "betraying" the trust of conservative voters in the 5th district along with casting votes that were not in his constituency's best interest. Riggleman secured key endorsements on the right, including from Liberty University President Jerry Falwell, Jr.

The local party leaders of the 5th Congressional District Republican Committee chose to determine the 2020 nominee for the fifth district by a convention instead of a primary election. On June 13, 2020, Good defeated Riggleman at the nominating convention with 58% of the vote to Riggleman's 42%

(on edit
Very disappointed in VA-5. They threw out an Air Force intelligence officer for some jock from Liberty U? What down-grade.

"abandoned party principles" -

What party principles?

The GOP has no values, principles, policies or goals.

There is no 2020 platform.

There is just a Trump cult.

It's hard for most normal rational people to get their heads around the fact that a whole political party is aligned with hypocrisy, cheating, treason.

Just us wait. They'll be back for more of the same in 4 or 8 years.
