Trump Administration to Begin Departing White House in Two Weeks, Email Says
Source: Newsweek
The Trump administration will begin departing the White House within two weeks, despite the president's insistence that he lost the election because of widespread voter fraud and ongoing efforts by his Republican allies to overturn the results in key battleground states.
In a video message posted to social media on Tuesday evening, President Donald Trump attacked the economic relief bill passed in Congress this week and suggested that "maybe" the next administration "will be me." The president also met on Monday with Republican lawmakers planning to object to the electoral votes of several states won by Joe Biden when Congress convenes January 6 to formally count the votes. But internally, the White House is preparing for the administration's departure.
White House staff received an email from the president's executive office on Tuesday evening instructing them to begin cleaning out their desks and boxing up office supplies with their departure, starting on January 4, CBS News correspondent Weijia Jiang reported via Twitter on Wednesday morning. The email includes lists of things that need to be done, such as "cleaning out your refrigerator and microwave," "returning Presidential gifts to room 1" and "taking home personal items."
"Employees will receive a comprehensive checklist in the coming days. As an initial step, please take inventory of your office and understand you are responsible for the following," the email says, going on to list tasks that need to be completed.

(36,841 posts)I wouldn't doubt it if Trump tries to cop a few (President's are not allowed to keep them).
Edit (they can keep some):
Even though heads of state have traditionally exchanged gifts as expressions of goodwill, the Constitution (Article I, Section 9) prohibits anyone in the US Government from receiving a personal gift from a foreign head of state without the consent of Congress. Today, the handling of gifts from a foreign official to any Federal Government employee, including the President, is largely governed by the Foreign Gifts and Decorations Act of 1966 and further legislation passed in 1977. Congress has allowed Federal employees to retain any gift from a foreign government, as long as the total US retail value of the gifts presented at one occasion does not exceed an amount established by the General Services Administration (GSA).[1] Foreign official gifts over this minimal value are considered gifts to the people of the United States, which the recipient must purchase from GSA, at fair market value, in order to retain. The White House Gift Unit sees to the disposition of foreign official gifts that the President and First Lady do not retain.
Domestic Gifts
Any gift not from a foreign government official is considered a domestic gift. Domestic gifts to the President and/or First Lady may be disposed of in any manner the President and First Lady wish. If they want to keep a domestic gift, they do not have to purchase it from the Government.
Reasons for Not Retaining Gifts
The President and First Lady keep for themselves only a small percentage of the gifts that they receive. Reasons for this include the following:
The requirement to pay for certain foreign official gifts (see first section).
The White House Gift Unit constantly receives items from the general public, and it is impossible for the President and First Lady to ever see most of them.
To protect the President and his family, the Secret Service requires destruction of food and drink gifts, combustible items which may release fumes, and colognes and other substances that are applied to the skin.
Any gifts retained by the President and First Lady that are not from a close relative including foreign official gifts that they keep may have to be declared in an annual disclosure report to the Office of Government Ethics.[2]
The President and First Lady may have to pay federal taxes on the appraised value of gifts that they keep.

(7,473 posts)The price of silver on any day does not reflect the value of the antique silver in the White House. Daily prices posted for silver on Kitco is for use in trade or scrap and MFG. It is quoted in 'troy ounces' not avoirdupois.
Also, in consideration is the value of silver items given a sitting president, whether antique or with a provenance that gives it more value, even if it does not fit the antique parameters.
Heck, they could hide the jewels in a suitcase. BTW, does anyone check what is being packed up? Some of the goodies might be used to enrich or placate a buddy to whom this idiot president owes a favor to two.
