Trump's $2,000 checks all but dead as GOP Senate refuses aid

Source: Tampa Bay Times

The roadblock mounted by Senate Republicans appears unsurmountable, even as pressure builds to approve the bigger checks.

President Donald Trump’s push for $2,000 COVID-19 relief checks was all but dead Wednesday as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell proposed an alternative approach of loading up the bill with other White House priorities that appeared destined to fail.

The roadblock mounted by Senate Republicans appears unsurmountable, even as pressure builds to approve the bigger checks. Trump wants the Republican-led chamber to follow the House and increase the checks from $600 for millions of Americans. A growing number of Republicans, including two senators in runoff elections on Jan. 5 in Georgia, agree. But most GOP senators oppose more spending, even if they are also wary of bucking Trump.

Senators will be back at it after McConnell blocked a vote Tuesday, but his new bill — which includes the formation of a commission to investigate the 2020 election as well as a complicated repeal of big tech liability protections — does not have enough support to pass.

“What we’re seeing right now is Leader McConnell trying to kill the checks — the $2,000 checks desperately needed by so many American families,” Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said at the Capitol.

He is such a miserable, evil narcissist that he thinks he has a right to hurt others because he has suffered so unfairly from other people.

Between his screwed up parents and obviously being born without an empathy gene, he is one of the worst people I've ever heard about. His recent tweet telling his goons to come to DC while he probably will be gone reminds me of Manson not taking part in the Tate murders that he orchestrated, saying he didn't do it because he wasn't there. That's the level I put dump on.

As we use to say frequently in the Navy, “Fuckin A”.
Investigate McConnell and Graham 24/7. Both are deep up Putins ass and we all know how Russia can fix our elections. And let them know before that bull is passed, they will be targeted endlessly, and prosecuted. Damn I wish God would call turtle home, but he don’t want that shit bag near him. We have to wait for Satan to call, but he has many years of hell planed for MurKKKa.

nor will we be there. Have you been out and about this week? Traffic is light. I went to a Lowes last evening, there are more employees than customers. Supermarkets get high marks for keeping things going, but I wonder if there could be retrenchment there too because there is a lot of close to expiration merchandise and deep discounts to move them, and high priced items languish to some extent.

2021 will be off to a brutal start, and while vaccinations will lift mood by April or so, the economic rebound will be slower I think. An economic system runs on throughput. Disrupt that and you will have bottlenecks and disconnected pieces - stockouts, dropping slow moving items altogether.

... was a coordinated stunt between Trump and McConnell for the sake of the Georgia runoff?

Trump meets with McConnell to cook up a scheme to boost the popularity of the 2 GA Repub Senators.

Trump then blusters about raising the stimulus to $2k, already knowing that it will never get to a Senate vote as promised by McConnell.

The 2 GA Repubs can safely go on record that they're in favor of the raise after being assured by McConnell that a Senate vote will never be taken.

Repubs get their stimulus "wish" by limiting the checks to $600. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum in GA now look like they're thinking of and protecting the citizens of their state.

Maybe just another conspiracy theory, but if Trump excels at anything, it's "The Con". And Trump is the master conniver.
