CPAC: Hyatt Hotels says stage design resembling Nazi rune is 'abhorrent'
Source: The Guardian
The Hyatt Hotels Corporation called symbols of hate abhorrent on Sunday after the design of a stage at the right-wing Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) at one of its hotels drew comparisons to a Norse rune used by Nazis during the second world war
High-profile Republicans including former president Donald Trump were attending the four-day event in Orlando, Florida, as conflict raged between Trump allies and establishment politicians trying to distance the party from him.
A photo of the CPAC stage went viral on social media on Saturday, with thousands of Twitter users sharing posts comparing its distinctive design to an othala rune, also known as an odal rune, one of many ancient European symbols that Nazis adopted to reconstruct a mythic Aryan past, according to the Anti-Defamation League.
The ceiling of the conference room featured a lighting display in the same shape as the stage, according to Reuters photographs.

It is weird, though. Maybe a management mistake, even for Florida. Jay Pritzker wouldn't mind pocketing the American Conservative Union's money, but as an Illinoisan, I'm pretty sure he would definitely mind that stage.

I dont know what this whole thread is even about. The hotel rented space, a disgusting stage was brought in by the group. It doesnt mean they condone CPAC, the stage, or anything else.

(50,555 posts)I also suspect Hyatt will inform the ACU, "if we do Nazi the plans of what you want to do before you build whatever it is you are building, and we do Nazi that you followed the plans you submitted to the letter, you will Nazi any of your money back when we evict your Nazi asses from our hotel."

(5,801 posts)doing business from now on with the party of insurrectionists, Nazis, and other traitors needs to have them sign an extensive contract addressing all of the potential embarrassments that could arise, with commensurate penalties if violated.

(111,245 posts)Likely they had no idea what that pattern was when the stage went in. They don't want to be blamed for it.
If they're smart, CPAC will have to find another venue next year. Perhaps by then the hospitality industry will be less desperate.
and I doubt if seeing that and not given a hint that I would get it. I *might* have recognized it as Norse, and then done some research since I know Norse is associated with white supremacy, but the stage is subtle enough it doesn't scream Nazi to me.

(1,896 posts)While seeing it wouldn't trigger me either, it sends a clear message to those who know what it is. Think of it like a cross or other image on a steeple.

(38,419 posts)I thought the Pukes couldn't get any worse or stupider....But they got a whole lot worse with this one..
I wonder who designed that stage? Instead of it being about the speakers, this has turned out
to be about Nazis and symbols they used in WWII.
The Republican Party could not have done a stupider job of planning.
And this was stupid beyond stupid..
.Whoever planned the stage, knew exactly what he/she was doing..Not a mistake..but it will
all come out in a few days or weeks...Who planned the stage and why...We will all know the facts...
just the facts, ...just the facts

(12,165 posts)To answer your question, usually a production design company is hired; it handles the details with the hotel and construction staff.
Event and production design companies typically show the client different concepts from which to choose. I would love to know the concept-to-construction story of the set and stage. And, now that were thinking about it, I would also like to get my hands on the creative brief.
I worked in creative services on the communications side. Any reputable production and event firm will research its ideas before executing them in order to filter out anything unacceptable to the client.
And it all starts with a creative brief.

(883 posts)Hitler used paranormal one way to control. Like taking Hindu swastika and changed it. The same was done with the runes. The rune it resembles is one for prosperity. So take care when you say Nazis runes because they are not theirs no more than the Hindu symbol was theirs. The focused ideas of a large group was thought to act as a way to control the "noosphere" a term by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin closest way to describe it. Martin Heidegger's book Introduction to Metaphysics was focused on by Hitler. The use of something sacred for the profane is abhorrent beyond words.

(54,358 posts)I think it was organized by a small group who knew EXACTLY what they were doing, as if they had phony $18 or $88 dollar bills passed around as "jokes."
Hard core rank and file Republicans don't manipulate--they like to BE manipulated. Their ignorance is their biggest trademark. I bet 90% of the people there couldn't even tell you what a "rune" is. The 10% in the know were probably doing the "wink wink" routine in the shadows.
