Ocasio-Cortez rips 'barbaric' conditions at border

Source: The Hill

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) ripped into the conditions at the southern border late Wednesday, calling them "barbaric" and "horrifying."

"We're looking at what's going on in these facilities, it's unacceptable, it's horrifying and it's a result of the fact that we have built our immigration system on the same principles and scaffolding as our carceral system," Ocasio-Cortez said during a virtual town hall.

She added that she didn't want to draw "false equivalents" between the Biden and Trump administration's actions.

"What is happening here is not the same as what happened during the Trump administration where they took babies out of the arms of mothers and deported their families and permanently traumatized these children," she said, adding that President Biden's policies toward families are "simply not the same" as his predecessor.

it's supposed to be fixed after seventy days of the Biden admin, which, btw, has had to deal with covid, the vaccine rollout, republican foot-dragging on cabinet appointments, and now this sniping from the left of the party which seems to be following the republican playbook by complaining about the border situation because Joe Biden is doing an excellent job on everything he's had time to address so far?

AOC needs to try to help find solutions instead of blasting the president for not fixing trump's mess soon enough for her.

She'll turn 35 a little over two weeks before the 2024 election. I doubt that she hasn't noticed that little bit of kismet.

Sigh.

We don't want to hear your outrage about things .
We want your legislation to fix it.
Repugs give us all enough outrage.

No child in America should live in a cage and sleep on the floor, unattended and unloved.

The situation is another opportunity for the Democrats to lead the way — solving another humanitarian crisis caused by Republican inaction.
