(Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday brought an end to a legal fight over former President Donald Trump's effort to block critics from following his now-frozen Twitter account, deciding the dispute was moot and throwing out a lower court's decision that found he had violated constitutional free speech rights.

Trump had appealed after the New York-based 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals concluded that he had ran afoul of U.S. Constitution's First Amendment by blocking his critics on the social media platform. Trump, a Republican, left office in January, replaced by Democratic President Joe Biden.

With Trump no longer president, the justices declined to hear arguments and resolve the case on the merits, tossing out the 2nd Circuit decision.

Throughout his presidency, Trump had regularly used Twitter to promote his agenda and attack detractors. Twitter banned Trump from its service days after a mob of his supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol in a deadly riot on Jan. 6.

Calling this a First Amendment case was ludicrous from the start.

Is Ghouliani still working for him?

Looks to me like his court cases/appeals are simply a way of delaying the inevitable...if anyone has the guts to actually put him behind bars, that is.

Just follow his life. He is an expert at delaying legal matters, not so much at winning them.

Lawsuits.

A lot of it will have to do with proving the two knew what they were saying about election "fraud" was not true.

Was thinking about this this AM because of NY Times piece about trump's fundraising. Lagging behind Biden, trump had to bilk donors. If they didn't uncheck a box and read fine print they got their donations on recurring debit. Now they are having to refund hundreds of millions. Implying why trump started begging for "stop the fraud" donations.

Long story short, maybe Dingbat always knew fraud was bullshit.
Follow the money.

has, in essence, ruled in Trump's favor by throwing out the ruling of the 2nd Circuit. Correct me if I am wrong, but couldn't they simply have declared the issue moot, and let the 2nd Circuit ruling stand?

Regardless of what Trump wanted, it is a complicated issue. And it has affected people on both sides... i.e. Marjorie Taylor Green and AOC.

But it does seem that, by vacating the previous decision, the supreme court has, in effect, made a decision.

Confusing.

So this is what he wanted.

Supreme Court wipes away ruling that said Trump violated Constitution by blocking Twitter followers

Washington (CNN)The Supreme Court on Monday wiped away a lower court opinion holding that then-President Donald Trump violated the First Amendment when he blocked followers from his Twitter account.
...
Lawyers from the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University sued on behalf of the individuals, arguing Trump's action violated their First Amendment rights.
...
Then-Solicitor General Jeff Wall asked the Supreme Court to take up the case, arguing that Trump's account is personal, even if it is sometimes run by his assistant Dan Scavino.
...
But after the election and after Twitter banned Trump from the platform for violating its policies related to the US Capitol insurrection, Wall asked the Court to dismiss the case and wipe away the lower court opinion.

I realized that they didn't hear arguments, but even commenting on it gave it a little oxygen that it didn't deserve.

My apologies.
