GREAT FALLS — After exhibiting mild symptoms on Sunday and out of an abundance of caution, Governor Greg Gianforte on Monday was tested for COVID-19 and received a positive result. The first lady, who has exhibited no symptoms, has been tested and is awaiting her results.

Following his doctor's instructions and public health guidance, the governor is isolating for 10 days, according to a news release from Gianforte's office. The governor has notified all individuals with whom he may have had close contact.

All of the governor's in-person events have been canceled until further notice, and the governor will continue to conduct his duties and manage the state's business from his home in Bozeman.

Gianforte received the first dose of the two-dose vaccine last Thursday at a Walgreens pharmacy in Helena.

Gianforte and the Montana state legislature (Republican controlled) have been running roughshod over our beautiful state. It's absolutely appalling, and I am delighted that Gianforte got Covid.

Get a load of this bullshit: Montana is expected to receive about $3 billion from the Biden American Rescue Plan bill. The Montana legislature wants to pass legislation stating that counties that DO NOT LIFT THEIR COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS will not get any of that money! So the back-ass-wards counties filled with Trump humpers, many of whom have basically defied the Covid restrictions for the past year, will be rewarded, while the more enlightened (liberal) counties and counties with tribal communities at greater risk of dying from Covid, who have taken every precaution and are STILL taking every precaution to protect their residents will be punished.

"[Rep. Matt] Regier said he wants to see language in the bill that counties, municipalities and schools with COVID-19 regulations more restrictive than the state’s would not be eligible for the federal money. While Montana has rescinded its mask mandate and other limitations on hours and capacity at businesses, local entities can still put those measures in place.

“This is all federal relief from the pandemic and shutdown. We’ve got a state policy for COVID and if the county wants to go and make some stricter (rules) and shut down businesses and even further restrict because of COVID, but then wants taxpayers to backfill even more of a shutdown, I don’t think that’s right,” Regier said. “As a state if we're going to lift each other out, we need to come out of this together, not shut down even further and then expect more taxpayer dollars to make up for decisions that schools or counties or cities are making above and beyond what the (state) has.”

As far as I know, this is still just a proposal, but the Republican-controlled state legislature is just giddy with power these days and I would not be at all surprised if they approved this incredibly unfair measure. I hope there are federal guidelines as to how the ARP money must be distributed within a state to make it more or less equitable and so that they can't just turn it into a big tax rebate for the wealthy Republicans in Montana and other red states.
