Amy Coney Barrett receives $2 million advance for book deal: report

Source: The Hill

Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett has reportedly sold a book, receiving an advance of $2 million.

Three industry sources close to the matter told Politico that Barrett's book will deal with how judges are not supposed to bring their personal feelings into their rulings.

One industry source told Politico that the "eye-raising amount" is likely the most a justice has received since Clarence Thomas and Sandra Day O'Connor sold their own books.

...

Barrett was pressed by Democratic lawmakers during her confirmation hearing on how she would rule on certain cases having to do with Roe v. Wade, the Second Amendment and the Affordable Care Act. Barrett avoided answering such questions, saying that, like the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, she would not offer "previews" on specific cases.

10. 11 years ago Sotomayor got around a $1.2 million advance

I’m seeing faux outrage about the Barrett deal.

15. They all do it

Even Ginsberg did it. I can't fault it since it's a way of making them extra taxable income.

5. Just looked up books by Justices. 76 including RBG, Sotomayor, and other decent

Justices.

I probably wouldn’t read her book, but would like to hear what others think. I suspect we’ll have plenty of threads on that here when published.

7. I don't like being judgmental in advance

but in my book she already has way too many strikes against her.

The philosophy of that extremist group she was involved in

Her ducking fair questions

That Trump appointed her, is a probable "tell"

I guess we will have to see if it becomes suspect this book deal is a payment for future votes and if the book itself is a collection of her complete hypocrisy which is the trade mark of the Republican politicians and appointees....

I would have worded it: "How judges ARE NOT supposed to bring THEIR PERSONAL BIASES into their rulings". Followed up with how she is only human and can't help but let her personal beliefs decide her vote.....

11. Barrett's book, will deal with how judges are not supposed to bring their personal feelings ...

into their rulings.

Hasn't she already proved otherwise?

This bull $h1t is just about the $2M she's receiving.
Probably paid by the book company through some RNC donor, looking for specific rulings.

12. This

Should be disallowed by the judicial code of conduct/ethics - and if there isn’t a provision for it, there should be. Yes, I know none of that applies to the SCOTUS, but it should.

13. For Republicans, it is apparently a thing:

GOP bulk book buying....

[link:https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/media/gop-book-deals/2021/04/15/154f3820-9ca5-11eb-b7a8-014b14aeb9e4_story.html|] Quite an interesting little scheme they got goin’.

also,
Hubbie and I love to cruise around “Ollie’s. It’s a store with lots of variety, everything from books to food to houseware’s to automotive, to furniture, etc. You can really find some bargains. Their slogan is “Good stuff cheap”. They are mostly right!

One thing that stands out is their book section. The section of political books is usually over-run with right wing conservative titles. Right alongside the enormous section of religious-centric titles.

Ollie’s is good, but it has a pretty explicit bias.

17. Her nomination process deserves a lot of criticism

And her replacement of RBG fills me with dread. But saying she's not qualified or doesn't have the experience required to be there isn't even remotely believable.

The ABA gave her a "well-qualified" rating, the highest rating possible. Their press release called her an "intellectual giant" with a "staggering academic mind", with a "stellar judicial temperament." That kind of praise i would expect from Republican jack-offs, but for the ABA to actually say it, means they really mean it.

Even with the ABA well-qualified rating.

this amounts to a payoff for favorable decisions.

She will not be influenced by the fact Amazon will probably be the biggest retail seller of her book. Yeah.

The grift continues.
