Tennessee House passes bill to ban local, state governments from requiring COVID-19 vaccine
BY JORDAN WILLIAMS - 04/22/21 10:48 AM EDT
The Tennessee House of Representatives passed a bill banning state and local governments from requiring COVID-19 vaccines.
The legislation, House Bill 13, states that a law enforcement agency or governmental entity of this state or a local government, or the governor or chief executive of a local government by executive order, shall not force, require, or coerce a person to receive an immunization or vaccination for COVID-19 against the person's will, according to the bills text.
The bill was passed by a 72-19 vote, and it now heads to the Senate.
The measure would take effect immediately upon the governors signing.

(12,582 posts)This is called the "Keep Biden From Getting Any Credit for Ending the Pandemic Law." You know that if T**** was still in the WH they'd make the vaccines mandatory, and officially name the drug the "President Donald J. T**** World-SavingVaccine.''

(3,401 posts)Governments power to enforce public safety is at risk . - Other vaccines wouldnt be enforceable to attend public schools, shoe removed and scanned by TSA at airports will no longer be enforceable or even body X-ray at airports fir that matter, seatbelts mandates no more, city ordinances for trash, pollution and sewage will be unenforceable. .... basically anything that is a requirement to protect the general welfare of citizens will not be enforceable if the Supreme Court rules in favor of this.
I doubt that it flys

(7,886 posts)The GOP expect to paralyze government on every level they can. Whether by denying federal authority directly or by claiming states' rights where none exist. They intend to fight the same battles they lost over school integration and many other equality issues by painting the Democrat led Federal government as an overbearing parent who should be resisted on every level.
The I.C.C. alone has enough established jurisdiction to defeat this one. Can you imagine the effect of quarantine against Tennessee products and transportation through the state due to possible toxic spread? Do you recall what happened during the mad cow scare? That is just one agency. SCOTUS won't help them either. They've chosen to take a stand in the middle of a legal swamp where there is NO solid ground under them.

(96 posts)Certainly there can be consequences if one refuses to get vaccinated, such as ineligibility for benefits or employment, but that's not forcing a person to receive the vaccine. The only instance I know of forcing a medical procedure on an unwilling person is forced birthing, which is unacceptable.

(17,911 posts)You're goddamn right you can be forced and should be. I couldn't attend primary school, secondary school or college without my vaccinations being up to date. The simple reason is, to protect those who can't be vaccinated for legitimate medical reasons. It's called being a good citizen, not a goddamn asshole.

(96 posts)It implies that one is held down and injected against their will. As I said, you may not be eligible for benefits, etc. (such as an education), but you're not being forcibly injected against your will. I completely agree that it is sociopathic to refuse a vaccination because you have been deluded by lies, or because you are stubborn and stupid, especially when that puts others at risk; however, using emotionally charged and inaccurate language gives opponents a toehold for rebuttal.
