Senate confirms former Florida Sen. Bill Nelson to lead NASA

WASHINGTON (AP) The Senate has confirmed former Florida Sen. Bill Nelson, who once flew on the space shuttle, to be the next NASA administrator.
Lawmakers agreed to President Joe Bidens choice to lead the space agency by consensus late Thursday, without a roll call vote.
Nelson will become NASAs 14th administrator, succeeding another former member of Congress, Jim Bridenstine, a Republican from Oklahoma. Nelson currently serves on the NASA Advisory Council.
Nelson promised, when nominated, to help lead NASA into an exciting future of possibilities. The space agency is working to send astronauts back to the moon this decade.

(11,237 posts)Nelson is about as middle of the road as there is, in addition to the fact that he's a former astronaut and Senator. There is literally ZERO reason for any Republican to vote against him.

(12,322 posts)I hated that he lost his seat to Scott because Rick Scott is a lying devil, but I was not entirely enthusiastic about Nelson because he and his wife support very conservative causes.
On the other hand I think this is a great position for him except that he is almost 90 years old. I am a senior citizen myself, but I feel that someone in their very late 80s is only given this title as a reward for years of service. And maybe thats ok too.
