Kansas lawmaker arrested after allegedly kneeing student in groin, asking about kids’ sex life on video

By Hannah Knowles
May 2, 2021 at 8:00 a.m. EDT

One video allegedly shows Kansas state Rep. Mark Samsel asking students about their sex lives.

Another reportedly shows the Republican lawmaker pushing someone against a wall while working as a substitute teacher and warning, “I could put the wrath of God on you right now.”

And yet another, reviewed by the Kansas City Star, allegedly captures the moments right after the legislator kneed a student in the crotch Wednesday. Samsel stands over the boy, the Star reported, and asks, “Did it hurt?” — then asks him why he’s about to cry and queries a classmate, “Do you want to check his nuts for him, please?”

“Class, you have permission to kick him in the balls,” Samsel says at one point on video, according to the newspaper.

let justice take him away, then he can grab the balls of all the prisoners while in jail, and asked them about their sex life too.

Sex life, wrath of god, check his balls, everyone can kick him in the balls...If that is not psycho, not sure what is.

Masculinity:
qualities or attributes regarded as characteristic of men.
"handsome, muscled, and driven, he's a prime example of masculinity"

20. Here's an article from the KC Star covering the same points.

The man is a dangerous nut. Red flags everywhere. Worth reading for more background, but here are the lowlights:

https://www.kansascity.com/news/politics-government/article251069219.html

In one video shared with The Star, Samsel tells students about “a sophomore who’s tried killing himself three times,” adding that it was because “he has two parents and they’re both females.” [snip]

In another video, Samsel is recorded telling students, “make babies. Who likes making babies? That feels good, doesn’t it? Procreate ... You haven’t masturbated? Don’t answer that question....God already knows.” [snip]

In another video, he tells students, “Class, you have permission to kick him in the balls.”

Parents told The Star that Samsel “put hands on the student” and allegedly kneed him in the crotch. In a video apparently taken immediately after the incident, the student is shown on the ground. Samsel is standing over him and says, “did it hurt?”

Speaking about his vote against a bill that would have ended an exemption for spouses from the state’s sexual battery law:

“To me, it gets to what does the sanctity of marriage mean?” Samsel was quoted as saying, according to the Kansas Reflector. “And I’m single, so I’m not the best person to speak to this. But when you do get married, what does that mean? And what implied consent are you giving?”

He claims he was worried about "criminalizing sexual relations between spouses." Oookay. He may have been fired from the school, but so far, the Kansas House GOP is still "gathering information." Wow.

How could anyone POSSIBLY act this way, to start with, but let's jump ahead. How could that person POSSIBLY run for office with skeletons like that in the closet? An arrogance that says "They'll never catch a smart/connected/powerful person like me?"

Does he honestly believe he did nothing wrong? Ever?

23. It is amazing how glib this perverted bully is in the video.

He’s just a good guy, isn’t he, even a great guy. The school sucks. He fears for our future.

Hold on, Jake, you kneed a kid in the groin and invited the class to kick him in the testicles. Yeah, sure, he says, but that’s just because the media is only showing one side of this. There was no altercation. No altercation? You mean the kid just lay on the ground holding his groin and moaning for funnies? You mean you just called the rest of the class to assault him -- in jest? That’s the only side anyone needs to see. If things got so out of control in the classroom, that’s on you, bubba, not on the kids. And the correct responses would have been a) to call the principal’s office immediately and b) resign by walking away. You did neither.

His ability to lie so easily about what is evident on video suggests a serious, deep psychological problem. I hope that jail helps straighten him out.

(No, I’m kidding. Jail won’t straighten out a slime ball like him. I just hope it makes him suffer, a lot.)

But I do believe there’ll be a lawsuit coming, and soon. So he’ll most likely lose his job and his property -- so at least there’s that.

I just hope some enterprising journalists does a follow up on this punk, maybe in 5 years, just to see how he’s doing, now that he’s out of jail and sued into the poorhouse. (I know it won’t happen that way, but it gives a certain amount of actual satisfaction just thinking about it.)

44. A couple reasons come to mind.

First and foremost, people are innocent until proven guilty (allegedly ), so including "allegedly" protects news media from libel and slander suits.

Second, video can be staged or framed in a way that grossly misleads. This is propaganda 101: control the narrative.

I'm not saying that's what's going on in this instance, only giving plausible reasons why journalism includes that kind of disclaimer.

42. Kansas lawmaker arrested for battery of student amid bizarre day as substitute

By Eileen AJ Connelly
May 1, 2021 | 6:01pm | Updated

- video at link -

A Kansas state representative was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor battery after he reportedly went on a religious rant while working as a substitute teacher and ended up in a physical altercation with a student.

Rep. Mark Samsel, a Republican who represents parts of four rural counties southeast of the capital Topeka, was busted by the Franklin County Sheriff Thursday, a day after the bizarre incident at Wellsville United School District’s high school.

Students in Samsel’s classes were recording videos of the lawmaker throughout the day, talking about suicide, sex, masturbation, God and the Bible, The Kansas City Star reported.

In one video shared with the paper, Samsel tells students about “a sophomore who’s tried killing himself three times,” adding that it was because “he has two parents and they’re both females.”

In another video, Samsel is recorded telling students, “make babies. Who likes making babies? That feels good, doesn’t it? Procreate. … You haven’t masturbated? Don’t answer that question….God already knows.”

. . .

46. Interesting that no students have come forward to corroborate that this was staged.

The KC Star article reports,

In a Snapchat post shared with The Star, Samsel wrote that “it was all planned.”

“Every little bit of it. That’s right. The kids and I planned ALL this to SEND A MESSAGE about art, mental health, teenage suicide, how we treat our educators and one another. To who? Parents. And grandparents. And all of Wellsville,” he posted.

It was supposedly about "art, mental health, and suicide"? WTF was he supposed to be teaching? I could see if they'd pulled him in to teach social studies (as a lawyer, that's the only thing he might be qualified to teach). But I am 100% positive he was not hired to teach art and/or health and wellness. And NONE of that excuses bringing God into the public school at all.

Where are the students who agreed with this? And also: if the kids did agree to do this, it may not have been of their own volition. How can kids give consent or object to what's being taught in school as it's being taught? To do so is to be labeled a troublemaker and sent to the office. Kids are literally in school to learn to be compliant and unquestioning (as opposed to learning and using critical thinking skills, per the DeVos education agenda).
