FDA expected to approve Pfizer vaccine for ages 12-15 this week

Source: Yahoo News/ABC

"The FDA could expand COVID vaccines for 12- to 15-year-olds as early as this week. Health experts say any day now, the agency is expected to authorize Pfizer's drug for that younger age group. The decision would allow middle school students and all high school students to get the shots."

I'm so glad to hear this. My youngest child is going to be 12 at the end of June. It sounds like I should be able to get him vaccinated before he starts middle school in the fall. 🙂

1. Excellent!

Well, it wonít help much in my area where we have more vaccines than people who want them. Still, overall, itís a fantastic step in the right direction.

2. It will help because now these vaccines can go into 12-15 year old.

3. I get that.

But if the adults are refusing to be vaccinated, what are the chances theyíll get their kids vaccinated? Overall, it will help. Every vaccination helps. Iím just frustrated that many kids in my area will not get vaccinated because of their anti-vaxx parents.

4. Yep, the same people who refuse to get vaccinated are unlikely to have their kids vaccinated.

5. That is a shame

Some people will vaccinate their kids though.

6. Do you know if this is Emergency Use Authorization only?

or has it been fully approved by the FDA? Not understanding why FDA can't give full approval, at this point.

7. Pfizer hasn't been "fully approved" for adult use yet either

Normally it takes a couple years of trials and data studies before a "full authorization" occurs. However since after the EUA was approved, and given the crises of this pandemic, millions have received their brand's shots (including a number of people who have voluntarily participated in CDC's "V-Safe" symptoms tracker program). So I expect they will probably apply for full authorization some time this fall (given their original study participants are still being tracked and would now contribute over a year's worth of their own data that can be amended to the final approval application).
