'Disturbing and reckless': Retired brass spread election lie in attack on Biden, Democrats

Source: Politico

By Bryan Bender 49 mins ago

A day after 124 retired generals and admirals released a letter spreading the lie that President Joe Biden stole the election, current and former military officers are speaking out, calling the missive a dangerous news sign of the military being dragged into the trenches of partisan warfare.

The open letter on Monday from a group calling itself Flag Officers 4 America advanced the false conspiracy theory that the presidential vote was rigged in Biden's favor and warned that the nation is "in deep peril" from "a full-blown assault on our Constitutional rights."

“Under a Democrat Congress and the Current Administration,” they wrote, “our Country has taken a hard left turn toward Socialism and a Marxist form of tyrannical government which must be countered now by electing congressional and presidential candidates who will always act to defend our Constitutional Republic.”

The broadside also raises questions about “the mental and physical condition of the Commander in Chief" and sounds the alarm about a host of hot-button issues, such as the border wall. It goes on to accuse congressional leaders of "using the U.S. military as political pawns with thousands of troops deployed around the U.S. Capitol Building."

I'm not sure what is and what isn't allowed but there are certain things that they can still be punished for that most civilians are allowed. This won't be pushed but i bet it comes really close to crossing the line.

This is extremely disturbing and surely must violate the oath that they took. It is THEIR behavior and their awful letter that is ""a full-blown assault on our Constitutional rights." Like the rights of the people to have their votes count.

The madness, this cancer has metastasized to every part of our society. If there are retired generals and admirals who feel this way, undoubtedly there also are some who are actively serving. That is even more disturbing.

I'm serious. The open letter is so poorly written, and has so many grammatical errors, that I find it hard to believe any highly-educated person - and one has to be highly educated to get that far up the chain of command - would agree to put his or her signature on it, even if that person agreed with the underlying message.

Perhaps not all of the people associated with the letter actually knew of this? Or didn't read it very carefully?

Some top Google results:

Socialism is an economic and political system where the workers own the means of production (i. e. farms, factories, tools, and raw materials.) ... Socialists believe that everything in society is made by the cooperative efforts of the people and citizens.

Socialism is a populist economic and political system based on public ownership (also known as collective or common ownership) of the means of production. Those means include the machinery, tools, and factories used to produce goods that aim to directly satisfy human needs.

Socialism is a system that shares economic output equally throughout the population. · It values the collective well-being of the community, rather than individuals.

„Democrat“ as an adjective and „socialist.“

This sounds more like something from Breitbart than something from a group of retired officers of the US military. If these guys had been in charge of our country’s armed forces, we would have nuked both North Korea and Massachusetts long ago.

Some nasty Republicans put out a rant called "George Carlin, bad American." It was some right wing diatribe, and Carlin disowned it as soon as he could.

Then the "American Legion" put out some BS explanation of what each of the thirteen folds mean in the flags handed to the survivors of veterans at their funerals. As one who received of those flags, I was horrified, and got the Pentagon to state that this was in no way connected with them, and they had nothing to do with it. The right wing stood by it for years, nonetheless.

It is a disgusting Republican tactic (I know, I know, #16,647)--make up some stupid rant, attach a fictitious origin to it, and then put it out on the internet, and wait for it to be debunked. What was that about a lie making its way around the world before the truth has gotten both of its shoes on?

From the language we can tell it was written by a republican operative. How these retired officers came to sign on is unknown.

It could have been culled from a simple FaceBook ad instructing people to "click here if you think the election was stolen" and written later with names that were cherry picked. It's hard to believe so many college educated professionals would buy into the Big Lie, even if they were Trump supporters.

I'm sure it's being vetted now.

I always thought the military had a very stringent vetting culture, but apparently, that was wrong. The signatories to that letter have all the same beliefs, anger and even talking points as their rabid civilian counterparts. For this level of recklessness to be an aberration, there must be FAR more generals and admirals than I ever thought.

It is dismaying beyond belief to read these words and know these facts. The military is ABSOLUTELY the most important institution to "hold" in order to save the Republic when push comes to shove.
