Sinema to Senate Dems: What's the plan on voting rights?

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Politico

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema posed a simple question to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on Thursday: How are Democrats going to pass their signature ethics and election reform bill?

The Arizona Democrat’s query is the central question surrounding the party’s high-priority legislation. Schumer had a matter-of-fact response at Thursday’s first private caucus meeting on the topic, according to multiple sources, telling Sinema only that the plan is to stick together.

But total unity is eluding the 50-member caucus right now. West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, the Senate’s most conservative Democrat, still hasn’t signed on. He also wasn’t there on Thursday.

Sinema is a sponsor of the bill and no one disparaged the legislation during the meeting, those sources said. But her inquiry, which her office did not dispute, highlights the uphill battle ahead for Democrats, who have a major math problem even if they do gain Manchin's support, since the bill has no chance of getting the 10 GOP votes needed to overcome the Senate’s procedural hurdles.

1. What's the plan? It will go down in flames unless she and Manchin decide to get rid of the

filibuster

Seems a bit disingenuous to me.

2. Manchin said yesterday he would support the lesser act the John Lewis voting rights act

It’s not everything the for the people act is, but it’s a solid piece of legislation that will restore much of what the robert’s court decimated. It’s going to happen!

10. The John Lewis Civil Rights Act

Is what we need. It is the exact legislative bill to protect voting rights.

It is worth ditching the filibuster for to save democracy. To make sure we have a democracy in the future we must.

6. What vote?

She has no intention of voting on any Democrat sponsored legislation unless it has Republican support.

She wants Republicans to dictate all the terms, which they have no intention of doing either.

So why, exactly, do we need her vote when there will never be one unless the Senate math changes more in our favor in 2022.

8. "We need her vote."

And if she doesn't vote for the voting rights act, then what?

Can't force that human dipstick to do anything she doesn't want to, but we know that if Dems lose the House and Senate in a few years, this country will be in a world of hurt on 'roids, because those GQP fascists in the House & Senate aren't playing with Dems nor do they CARE if this country blows the hell up. I guess she nor the man's name in WV I don't mention or my post may be removed don't give a shit.

Their skids are being well greased 'allegedly.'

Do people who sponsor a bill ever not vote for it? (Apologies if that's a dumb question, but I honestly don't know.)

...because Arizona Republicans jammed through their own set of voter-suppression laws, thus putting her personal re-election at risk if this doesn't pass. Manchin? West Virginia hasn't passed anything that might be a threat to him, so

18. You might want to ask your pal Joe, Krysten...

Isn't it funny how "moderates" don't believe in doing anything that isn't fully bipartisan...unless it concerns voting rights where Republicans in their own state have passed suppression laws that they'll have to run against next time around?
