George W. Bush Warns of 'Aggressive' Iran, Says Arab World Must Decide on Peace With Israel to Solve
Source: Newsweek
Former President George W. Bush warned of an "aggressive" Iran and said the Arab world must decide on peace with Israel to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
During a Wednesday interview with Fox News, Bush said that what "you're seeing playing out is Iranian influence targeted toward Israel," and that he believes "the best approach with regard to Iran is to understand that their influence is dangerous for world peace, that they are very much involved with extremist movements in Lebanon and Syria and Yemen, and they are aiming to spread their influence."
Any U.S. deals made with Iran, according to Bush, should focus on its nuclear capabilities as well as "its influence in the Middle East," and should keep in mind "the dangers of an aggressive Iran to our allies and to stability."
Bush said Iran is trying to break up alliances made in the 2020 Abraham Accords with Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) under then-President Donald Trump's administration, which called it a "historic peace agreement."

I will post one excerpt
Vanity Fair has obtained confidential documents, since corroborated by sources in the U.S. and Palestine, which lay bare a covert initiative, approved by Bush and implemented by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Deputy National Security Adviser Elliott Abrams, to provoke a Palestinian civil war. The plan was for forces led by Dahlan, and armed with new weapons supplied at America's behest, to give Fatah the muscle it needed to remove the democratically elected Hamas-led government from power. (The State Department declined to comment.)

(59,501 posts)NONE of the countries involved in the Abraham Accords were at war with Israel and all had INFORMAL ties and relationships. At most, the accord made connections more public and could have led to more trade. Some of the countries involved had relations with both the US and Iran.
Netanyahu had long tried to use mutual dislike of Iran as a unifying bloc consisting of the Sunni countries and Israel. The United States, over multiple administrations, had held the possibility of friendlier economic ties as a carrot for the middle east that could exist if the Israel/Palestine issue was resolved. Trump, took the cynical Netanyahu approach that they could move directly to these better ties because it was in those countries interests to do so. The US did a lot to "sweeten" the deal - mainly weapons sales.I expect that the Trump/Kushner allies will blame Biden if those accords retreat as some weapons sales are put on hold and the population responses to the video from Gaza.
For years, Israel made the correct point that Israel/Palestine was not the root of all MiddleEast turmoil. Now, it needs to be said that Iran is not the root of all turmoil in the MiddleEast. (Remember that the Taliban, ISIS and AQ are all Sunni.)
Even in 2015, the Obama team spoke of the need to stop Iran's ability to get a bomb diplomatically as a first step. Sanctions that were placed because of support of terrorism were left in place. Bush's comments actually are not inconsistent with where the Obama team was in 2015 or where Biden likely is now. Trump was actually well positioned to push a second deal (leaving the nuclear deal in place) that dealt with terrorism and other issues. Creating a more dangerous Shia/Sunni fight is the exact opposite of what is needed - no matter what Netanyahu wants.

(59,501 posts)There were many many very easy to find detailed articles on his real estate and casino bankruptcies. His only real success was his TV celebrity.
We live in a country where reality TV is seen as "real", not artifice, edited for the desired message and to create interest in the plots the producer wanted. For many people, the DJT of that show labeled a brilliant businessman for no apparent reason was who they thought was running. They ignored news stories that he actually was a pretty terrible businessman, who was born the heir to a large NYC real estate fortune.

(4,990 posts)of Bush, I have many questions about this whole affair. Among them are:
Where did Hamas get 3100 rockets?
- The photos of rockets appear to be far more sophisticated than something made in someone's garage.
How did they pay for them?
- If the images are accurate, they also don't look cheap. Even if they are homemade, the money for the resources to make them has to come from somwhere.
The fact that Iran backs Hamas, at least in words, is evidenced by this comment:
Iran has been one the most vocal critics of Israel and has made some extremely inflammatory remarks about Israel and its continued existence.
